A receiving processing unit receives identical SD pictures transmitted a plurality of number of times, and performs addition for weighting an SD picture stored in a storage and the received SD pictures. The receiving processing unit stores the obtained values as a new SD picture in the storage. A picture-quality determining unit determines the picture quality of the new SD picture stored in the storage, and based on the determined picture quality, a request-signal transmitting unit requests class codes representing classes obtained by classifying the pixels of an HD picture in which the quality of an SD picture is increased. A receiving-control unit receives class codes which are transmitted in response to the request, and based on the SD picture and the class codes, an adaptive processing unit calculates predicted values of an HD picture corresponding to the SD picture.

An image processing system for simultaneously displaying one or more images includes an obtaining unit, a playback unit, and a display control unit. The obtaining unit obtains an information presentation level specified by a viewer. The playback unit plays, at a predetermined playback speed, the one or more images recorded on a predetermined recording medium. The display control unit changes, in according with the information presentation level, an amount of information of the one or more images to be displayed on a predetermined display unit.

When the processor corresponding to the designation is selected, an algorithm processor makes an operation corresponding to the designation. A management center charges the user for the use of the algorithm.

The present invention relates to a picture processing apparatus that allows detection of an area in which a plurality of objects, such as a background picture and a picture of a moving object, is mixed. A background picture generation unit 121 generates a background picture based on picture data. A binary object picture extraction unit 121 detects a correlation value between each pixel in picture data of a frame under consideration and a pixel in the background picture at a position corresponding to the pixel in the picture data of the frame under consideration. A temporal change detection unit 123 detects a mixed area in the frame under consideration, in which a plurality of real-world objects is mixed, based on a temporal change of the correlation value at each pixel position. The present invention can be applied to a picture processing apparatus that takes difference between a signal detected by a sensor and the real world into consideration.

A spectrum measurer converts an audio signal from a time axis signal into a frequency axis signal. A compressor removes frequency spectra having levels below a minimum audible threshold value. An embedability determiner determines whether information can be embedded. A spectrum switcher embeds information in an audio signal by switching or by not switching predetermined first frequency spectrum and second frequency spectrum under the control of an information adder. The present invention is applicable to a disk recording apparatus.
