    摘要: Carbon black is produced according to the process set forth in the parent Specification (wherein an atomized spray of liquid hydrocarbon is introduced into a heated reaction space and therein disassociated in a turbulent zone of combustion) by selecting as the liquid hydrocarbon an anthracene oil having a mean molecular weight in the range of 140 to less than 225 but having otherwise the same characteristics as the hydrocarbons specified in the parent Specification, namely a hydrogen/carbon ratio of 0.75-1.25, an A.P.I. gravity of not more than 10, a viscosity in excess of 30 Saybolt seconds universal at 210 DEG F. and a Conradson carbon residue in excess of 1.5.

    摘要: Pellets are formed from carbon black, by introducing the material through a shoot 14 into a rotating drum 10 and introducing a liquid, e.g. water or a mineral oil, through nozzles 30 which can rotate freely about a feed conduit 18. The nozzles and a counterbalance 34 are radially adjustable. This allows the circulation of solids in the drum to move the nozzles into the zone "A" which is the centre of circulation. In this way a volatile combustible oil is safely confined beneath the surface of the solids. Additional seed pellets may be added to the drum. The solids, liquid, and the drum may be heated or cooled. The nozzles are preferably near the inlet end of the drum.

    摘要: In the production of carbon black from a hydrocarbon oil which is injected into a heat-insulated furnace 10 in atomized form, the oil feed tube is surrounded by a ring of orifices 32 which inject fuel gas into a spiral stream of oxygen-containing gas from a header 50, the resulting mixture being substantially completely burnt before reaching the oil spray. As shown in Fig. 3, the fuel gas is preheated by passage through an annular tube around an oil feed tube 21 to the end of said oil feed tube and then back through an outer annular tube to orifices 32. As shown the orifices are radial but they may be at an angle to the axis, or helical to impart a spinning motion. The make hydrocarbon may have a hydrogen to carbon ratio of 0.75-1.25, a mean molecular weight of 225-550, an A.P.I. gravity of not more than 10, a viscosity of more than 30 SSU, and a Conradson carbon residue of greater than 1.5. The hydrocarbon may be atomized with air, steam, a combustible or an inert gas. The fuel gas may be natural gas, coke oven gas, hydrogen or vaporized or atomized liquid hydrocarbon. The oxygen-containing gas may be air or oxygen diluted with tail gas or other inert gas. Specifications 627,872 and 699,406 are referred to.

    摘要: In the production of carbon black by injecting a make hydrocarbon oil in atomized or vaporized form into a spiral stream of burning air and fuel gas as it proceeds from the relatively confined extension or throat portion of a carbon black furnace into the flared inlet portion thereof, additional fuel gas is injected into the spiral stream of air and fuel gas before injection of the make hydrocarbon from a plurality of converging nozzles disposed in a ring around the axis of the spiral stream. The make hydrocarbon may be atomized in air. The point of introduction of the auxiliary fuel gas may be varied longitudinally. The auxiliary fuel gas is preferably directed towards the centre line of the furnace but may be directed slightly countercurrent to the rotation of the spiral stream of air and fuel gas. The quality of the product depends on the ratio of auxiliary fuel gas to fuel gas in the spiral stream. As shown, make hydrocarbon oil is injected into the flared inlet portion 13 of a carbon black furnace from nozzle 26 where it is decomposed by a spiral stream of burning air and fuel gas passing out of a throat 12, said spiral stream being formed by injecting fuel gas from orifices 16 and 25 into a spiral stream of air passing through throat 12 from a tangential duct 19 in a header 17. Orifices 25 are formed in pipes of adjustable length which are attached to a cover plate 20. Alternatively the pipes may pass through stuffing-boxes in cover plate 20.
