The process involves a gas stream, comprising methane, an oxidizing agent (such as air, or oxygen blended with an inert diluent), and a nitrogen oxide as a gas phase sensitizer at oxidation conditions to produce C1-oxygenates, such as formaldehyde and methanol. A certain proportion of nitrogen oxide, which acts as a radical initiator, in the stream is crucial to achieve a high yield of formaldehyde and methanol. In addition, the temperature plays an important role in the conversion of methane and in the selectivity to C1-oxygenates.

A process for removing a cyclododecanone-rich target fraction (A) from a dehydrogenation mixture (O) comprising low boilers (LB), cyclododecanone (CDON), medium boilers (MB), cyclododecanol (CDOL) and high boilers (HB) is provided. According to the process, substantially pure CDON is obtained via a distillative sequence of two side draw columns connected in series, wherein the sidestream of the primary side draw column is fed into the secondary side draw column. From the top of each of the two side draw columns, a CDON-rich fraction is drawn off, and these are combined to form a target fraction, which is essentially pure CDON.

The blend of partially oxygenated compounds is provided to a reactive scrubbing station where it is contacted with a reactive scrubbing liquid to form a reactive liquid-formaldehyde compound. The reactive liquid-formaldehyde compound is then removed from the first blend of partially reactive compounds.

A method is disclosed for removing contaminants from a feed stream to a hydrogenation process that begins with providing a product mixture from an air oxidation reaction. A first liquid separation process and cooling procedure is used on the product mixture to form a cooled product mixture and a first vapor stream. The cooled product mixture is then subjected to a water wash to form a washed product mixture and an aqueous exit stream, wherein a majority of the water soluble other oxidation products from the cooled product mixture are present in the aqueous exit stream. Next, the washed product stream undergoes a second liquid separation and water removal to form a treated product mixture and a second vapor stream. Finally, the treated product mixture is recovered and can be fed to a hydrogenation process.

A method for preparing supported bimetallic catalysts of coinage group metal and a combination of a coinage group metal and a platinum metal group is described. A method for direct synthesis of adipic acid (AA) adopting green catalytic oxidation route of cyclohexane (CH) using the bimetallic catalysts is described. The reaction to convert CH into AA in the presence of bimetallic catalyst is carried in an autoclave in the temperature range of 25 to 300° C. The CH conversion was over 21% with AA selectivity of 34% and ca. 63% selectivity of cyclohexanone and cyclohexanol together over Au—Pd/TiO2 bimetallic catalyst.
