摘要: An adaptor for discriminating connection of an oral tip having a length greater than 0.50 (12.70 mm) to a feeding line and for preventing sealed connection with a standard semi-rigid luer tip having a length less than or equal to 0.50 in (12.70 mm) is disclosed. The adaptor includes a duckbill valve spaced at least 0.50 in (12.70 mm) downstream from a first open end of the body such that when an oral tip is fully inserted into a connection port, the oral tip engages valve flaps of the duckbill valve and opens the valve, and when a standard semi-rigid luer tip is fully inserted into the connection port, the standard semi-rigid luer tip does not contact the valve flaps and the valve flaps remain in a closed position.

摘要: A patient hydration system comprises a bladder, a flexible tube, a safety guard, and a mouthpiece. The bladder can be a generally rectangular-shaped pouch designed to hold liquids. The bladder can have an attachment means whereby a retention member can be used to hang the bladder. The bladder has a port that allows the attachment of the flexible tube. The tube is also connected to the safety guard and mouthpiece. The contents of the bladder flow through the tube and out of the mouthpiece on demand. A keeper clip can be added in proximity to the mouthpiece. The safety guard provides a substantial handle for grasping and maneuvering the system, ensures that the mouthpiece is not inadvertently swallowed by the patient, and protects the mouthpiece from surface contamination if the mouthpiece is placed on a table, plate, etc.

摘要: An adaptor for discriminating connection of an oral tip of a source of liquid enteral product to a feeding line. In one embodiment, the adaptor includes an internal stop in the body having a contact surface that is angled with respect to a transverse plane extending generally transverse to the longitudinal axis of the connection port so that if the standard luer tip is inserted into the connection port, the luer tip does not make flush contact with the contact surface. In another embodiment, the adaptor includes an external stop surrounding the connection port generally adjacent to the first open end of the body. The adaptor may include an umbrella valve. In other embodiments, the adaptor includes a fluid release opening in fluid communication with the connection port extending generally radially through the adaptor body at a location spaced from the longitudinal ends of the body.

摘要: A medical catheter assembly including either a reinforced balloon bolster or the combination of a balloon bolster and a wire-basket bolster. According to one embodiment, the medical catheter assembly is a low-profile replacement PEG device that comprises a feeding tube, an external bolster, an end cap and a reinforced balloon bolster. The feeding tube has a larger, feeding lumen and a smaller, inflation lumen, the two lumina extending longitudinally in a parallel fashion. The external bolster is fixed to the external end of the feeding tube and has a feeding lumen aligned with that of the tube and an inflation lumen aligned with that of the tube. The end cap is mounted on the internal end of the feeding tube, the end cap having an end wall that seals the internal end of the inflation lumen and having an opening that is aligned with the feeding lumen. The reinforced balloon bolster is mounted over the feeding tube and comprises a flexible sleeve and a plurality of linear reinforcing stays embedded within the sleeve. An intermediate portion of the sleeve lies over an aperture that is in fluid communication with the inflation lumen of the tube.

摘要: A sealing valve assembly is provided for medical products. The valve assembly includes a valve member mountable within a passageway of a medical product body element, the valve member defining a peripheral portion spaced from a central axis and including two walls extending from the peripheral portion toward the central axis. The walls include ends that contact each other to preclude flow through the passageway. The valve member may be formed of a material having a durometer of less than about 20 Shore A. The valve member may also have a higher durometer material with other wall configurations, or may have a wall member having a varying durometer.

摘要: A decompressing and feeding method and system for safely feeding in the gastrointestinal tract of a recovering patient may continuously aspirate from the stomach and/or other portions of the digestive tract and feed at a rate commensurate with the ability of the intestines to absorb fluids including nutrient. Air is also aspirated in the process so that neither air nor excess fluids cause distension in the gastrointestinal tract. An aspirate including digestive juices and nutrients from the stomach may be filtered and continuously refed together with unused feeding material into the gastrointestinal tract at a location that more efficiently moves and digests the food.

摘要: A gravity bolus feeding device having a cylindrical body with and intake valve to control or prevent flow of fluid through the feeding device. The device also has a check valve to receive fluids expelled from the patient back into the feeding device. The check valve allows such fluids to rejoin the fluid path and be re-fed to the patient, while allowing air to vent. A burp baffle for use with this or another feeding device to prevent spillage or splashing, while taking in or venting air. The burp baffle has a bottom section which snugly fits into the device, with a notch or opening near its outer periphery, allowing fluid to pass. A center section connected to the bottom section allows fluid to flow around it and into an opening generally opposite the notch. A top section covers the feeding device, and has a hole that allows fluid to vent out the top of the feeding device.
