Abstract:
A coating composition includes: (a) 60 to 90 percent by weight of an active hydrogen-containing polyester having a number average molecular weight of at least 23,000, an acid value below 5 and a hydroxyl value below 10, (b) 0.1 to 10 percent by weight of a polyanhydride, and (c) 5 to 30 percent by weight of a curing agent reactive with the active hydrogens associated with (a) and (b), the percentages being based on weight of resin solids of the coating composition, where the reaction product of the coating composition forms a single coating without including a thermoplastic polymer. The coating composition is useful in coating food and beverage containers, particularly 2-piece cans formed by drawing and redrawing (DRD).
Abstract:
A press forming method includes: press forming a press formed product including a top portion, a side wall portion continuous from the top portion through a punch shoulder portion, and a flange portion continuous from the side wall portion through a die shoulder portion, the press formed product including a curved portion that is concave and curved in a top view; and increasing a bending radius of the punch shoulder portion in the curved portion from a center of a curve toward an end side of the curve.
Abstract:
In at least one embodiment, a metal blank is provided including a metal sheet having a surface including at least one pair of channels defined therein. Each channel may have a first portion extending from an edge of the blank and a second portion in an interior of the blank. The second portion may be wider than the first portion. The blank may include at least one pair of thermocouple wires, with one wire being attached to each second portion. An adhesive material may be disposed in each second portion. The wires may be attached by welding and the adhesive material may be a metallic composite adhesive. The disclosed blank may be used to calibrate or otherwise assess a process where the blank is being heated or cooled, such as aluminum hot-stamping.
Abstract:
A method for painting a complex or compound curved three-dimensional surface of a portion of an article. The method comprises providing a paint film (24); providing sheet metal (26) having opposite major surfaces; laminating the paint film onto a major surface of the sheet metal to form a painted sheet metal laminate (22) comprising a first portion and a second portion; permanently deforming the first portion of the painted sheet metal laminate into a formed portion of the article having a complex or compound curved three-dimensional shape; applying an initial force for securing the second portion of the painted sheet metal laminate during an initial stage of said permanently deforming step; and applying a later force for securing the second portion of the painted sheet metal laminate during a later stage of said permanently deforming step. The later applied force is greater than the initially applied force.
Abstract:
Provided is a method of manufacturing an item, notably a culinary item, including a support provided with a sol-gel covering, which method involves a pressing step performed after the sol-gel covering has been applied to and pre-densified on the support.
