Abstract:
The invention relates to an emulsified water fuel blend containing aqueous organic ammonium salts. The emulsified water fuel blend lowers nitrogen oxide emissions from engines.
Abstract:
A process to make water-blended fuel by emulsifying the emulsifier in a portion of the fuel, then adding the water under high shear mixing to give a concentrated water fuel emulsion. The concentrated emulsion is then diluted with final portion of fuel using mixing or blending conditions resulting in an emulsified water blend fuel.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to emulsion compositions for starting a reformer of a fuel cell system. In particular, the invention includes emulsion compositions comprising hydrocarbon fuel, water and alkoxylated alcohol surfactants for starting a reformer of a fuel cell system.
Abstract:
A stable, clear water-in-oil emulsion consisting of from about 5 to about 40 wt % aqueous phase and from about 95 to about 60 wt % non-aqueous phase, said aqueous phase being dispersed in said non-aqueous phase in the form of droplets having an average droplet size no greater than about 0.1 nullm, said emulsion comprising at least 60 wt % of an oil selected from fuel oils, lubricating oils and mixtures thereof, from about 5 to about 30 wt % of an emulsifier composition, and the balance to 100 wt % water, wherein said emulsifier composition consists essentially of i) a mixture of C6-C15 alcohol ethoxylates, each comprising from 2 to 12 EO groups, ii) from 0 to about 25 wt % of an emulsifier selected from polyisobutylsuccinimide, a sorbitan ester and mixtures thereof, and iii) from 0 to about 90 wt % of an amine ethoxylate. The microemulsion is useful as a fuel and/or lubricant/coolant.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a process for reducing the level of pollutants in the exhaust of a diesel engine, comprising: operating said diesel engine using as the fuel a water-diesel fuel emulsion; and contacting the exhaust gas from said diesel engine with an after-treatment such as a filter.
Abstract:
An aqueous hydrocarbon fuel is produced by a continuous process. Further, the continuous process employs at least two emulsification devices, in series, to produce an aqueous hydrocarbon fuel containing aqueous droplets having a mean diameter of less than 1.0 microns.

1 In re Application of:RUDOLF W. GUNNERMAN Filed:Simultaneously Herewith Serial No.: For:A WATER-IN-OIL EMULSION FUEL Attorney Docket Number:01-05 The invention is a novel water-in-oil emulsion fuel substitute for hydrocarbonaceous middle distillate fuels. The invention is comprised of a middle distillate fuel, water, mixture of fatty acids, polyanhydride, and ammonium hydroxide. Additionally, other fuel quality enhancing agents can also be added to the emulsion fuel as required.
Abstract:
An acqueous synfuel composition to be used as an additive for coal and like combustible materials to cause chemical bonding with the coal or materials to transform it into a substance legally defined by United States Air Quality Regulations as a synfuel. The composition contains polyvinyl alcohol, a hydrocarbon wax, and water which interact with the coal or material.
Abstract:
Fuel-water emulsions in which an alkoxylated, preferably an ethoxylated, polyisobutene is used as an emulsifier are described. Stable emulsions, in particular of diesel-water mixtures, which have advantageous properties when used as fuel in internal combustion engines can be prepared in this manner.
Abstract:
According to the present invention, there is provided an ultrasonically operated liquid fuel modifying device for applying an ultrasonic wave to liquid fuel having high viscosity and poor quality, and modifying it into good emulsified oil. The modifying system of the present invention comprises: a fuel tank (10) for storing liquid fuel having high viscosity and poor quality; a water tank (20) for storing water; an agitating device (30) for agitating the liquid fuel and water fed from the fuel and water tanks (10, 20), respectively; and an ultrasonically operated modifying device (40) including an ultrasonic vibration generator (56) for generating an ultrasonic wave so as to apply the ultrasonic wave to the liquid fuel and the water fed from the agitating device (30) and to modify it into good emulsified oil, and ultrasonic wave-generating portions (65).
