    摘要: A switch status sensor is provided for counting on/off events of a switch of a water meter. When an on/off event is detected by a microcontroller, the microcontroller supplies a “signature” signal, which is distinguishable from electromagnetic noise, to the switch. If this “signature” signal is detected as having passed through the switch by the microcontroller, then it can be confirmed that the switch is closed. Alternatively, if the “signature” signal is not detected as having passed through the switch by the microcontroller, then it is verified that the switch is open. Thus, the switch status sensor can distinguish between false switch events caused by electromagnetic noise and true on/off events of the switch.

    摘要: A fluid flow monitoring system comprised of a permanent magnet mounted on a bendable spring blade that provide an output from a Hall effect transducer as the permanent magnet is deflected toward or away from the transducer. The permanent magnet can be mounted to directly approach the Hall effect transducer or can also be mounted to approach the transducer by a sideways bypass direction. Both the direct motion and sideways bypass direction allows the use of a variety of sizes and shapes of magnets that allow the magnetic field intensity to be modified in any way desired. Various magnet shapes such as cylinders, rectangles, pyramids, triangles or compound magnets from these shapes may be used. The output signal of the transducer is processed through a smoothing filter and circuits that produce a linear output or a stepped digital output. The system preferably uses a resistance/capacitance filter to provide a different time constant for an increasing flow or a decreasing flow. The output can be used as a flow switching circuit or as a flow meter, or as a flow quantity totalizer.

    摘要: A flow switch includes a movable shuttle enclosed within a bore having narrower and wider bore sections. The shuttle has a solid cylindrical portion and a vaned portion. When there is no fluid flow from the inlet to the outlet, the shuttle rests on a part-conical portion of the bore. When fluid pressure is applied at the inlet, the shuttle is raised until the vaned portion is partly within the wider bore section. Fluid can then flow through the spaces between the vanes in the vaned portion, and fluid flow is detected by the change in position of the shuttle. The shuttle can be made magnetic, whereupon a magnetic sensing means such as a magnetic reed switch can be used to detect fluid flow. This arrangement has the advantage that resistance to flow and pressure drop are minimal compared to previous designs.

    摘要: Disclosed is a non-position sensitive, non-memory condition sensitive, automatic reset flow sensor having a solid housing having an inlet port and an outlet port connected by an axial bore through the center of the sensor housing. An armature is free to move axially within the bore within a range of motion defined by two pairs of detents, the detents extending radially toward the center axis of the bore. The magnetic axis of the compensating magnet is such as to normally oppose the magnetic axis of the armature and, thereby, to apply a magnetic repulsion against the armature to bias the armature toward the inlet port of the sensor housing. The force of magnetic repulsion between the compensating magnet and the armature is, at all times, greater than the force of gravity to, thusly insure that the repulsive force of the compensating magnet will be capable of returning the armature to its original position proximal to the inlet port detents, after the flow condition causing movement of the armature toward the outlet port detents has abated.

    摘要: Fluid flow indicator is provided in which a fluid pressure to position transducer moves a permanent magnet from a no-flow position to a flow position in response to fluid pressure. The change in the position in the permanent magnet changes the intensity and polarity of the magnetic field that the permanent magnet places upon a Hall effect semiconductor; so that a switching function results as a function of fluid pressure differential causing no-flow and flow conditions. The change in magnitude and polarity of the magnetic field between first and second distances from one surface of the permanent magnet is increased by providing an opening through the permanent magnet and by providing a magnetic device near the opposite surface of the magnet.

    摘要: A flow switch is disclosed comprising a body member having a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet defined therein. An outer core tube is disposed within the body member and has a first and a second end. An inner core tube is disposed coaxial to and within the outer core tube and has a first and a second end with the first ends of the inner and outer core tubes being disposed adjacent the fluid inlet. One of the inner and outer core tubes being in fluid communication with the fluid inlet. The body member defines a body flow path between the outer core tube and the body member and in fluid communication with the fluid outlet. A first aperture is defined by the inner core tube and a second aperture is defined by the outer core tube. Securing means secures one of the core tubes to be non-rotatable relative to the body member. The other of the core tubes is rotatable relative to the body member enabling the first aperture to register with the second aperture for defining a first orifice of variable size to provide a variable flow path from the fluid inlet to the body flow path and to the fluid outlet in accordance with the relative rotational position between the inner and outer core tubes. A cylindrical chamber is defined by the rotatable core tube. A piston is slidably disposed in the cylindrical chamber for movement in accordance with the fluid flow through the fluid inlet. A switch is disposed proximate the piston for providing a switching output in response to the fluid flow through the fluid inlet exceeding a preselected level.

    摘要: A liquid flow indicator for use in an automatic sprinkler system. The indicator is adapted to be attached to a water line and includes a non-metallic vane retainer or support which is mounted within an opening in the water line. A flexible one-piece plastic vane is pivoted to the retainer and has a generally circular body portion which is disposed transversely within the pipe. If the water line is opened downstream of the indicator, the flow of water within the line will pivot the vane, causing a magnet in the upper end of the vane to move into proximity with a sensor to complete an electrical circuit and generate a signal indicating that the water line has been opened. The retainer is formed with a pair of aligned recesses which are sealed apart by a central wall and the upper head of the vane which contains the magnet, is located in one recess, while the sensor is in the other recess.
