    摘要: Less hazardous methods for generating thermal energy for heating water, medical supplies or comestible products using improved flameless chemical heaters/flameless ration heaters by novel chemical or electrochemical means, each capable of suppressing the generation of hydrogen gas. Remote unit self-heating meals may be more rapidly heated by forming a reaction mixture comprising magnesium or a magnesium-containing alloy, and a hydrogen eliminator or suppressor, and introducing water to react the reaction mixture and generate a more rapid release of thermal energy sufficient to effectuate a more accelerated temperature rise and more rapid heating of medical supplies, water, rations or other comestible substances while simultaneously suppressing or eliminating the generation of potentially hazardous hydrogen.

    摘要: A wafer alkaline cell of a laminar structure is disclosed. The cell has a pair of opposing sides comprising at least the majority of the boundary surface of said cell and defining a short cell dimension therebetween. The cell comprises an anode assembly and a cathode assembly bonded together to form a laminate structure. The cell comprises a single plastic frame or two separate plastic frames housing the anode and cathode material. The anode current collector may be precoated with a sealing metal forming an alkaline resistant metal oxide film to improve bonding to the frame. The anode assembly has an anode material therein typically comprising zinc and the cathode assembly has a cathode material therein typically comprising manganese dioxide. The cell is durable and preferably rigid, has elongated leak block paths, and resists electrolyte leakage.

The negative electrode further includes a surfactant that adsorbs to a surface of the zinc alloy powder during a non-discharge period and promptly desorbs from the surface of the zinc alloy powder upon start of discharge without impeding ion transfer in the alkaline electrolyte.

    摘要: An alkaline battery of this invention includes: a positive electrode including at least one selected from the group consisting of a manganese dioxide powder and a nickel oxyhydroxide powder; a gelled negative electrode including a zinc alloy powder, a gelling agent, and an alkaline electrolyte; and a separator interposed between the positive electrode and the gelled negative electrode. The gelling agent comprises a polymer that is obtained by polymerizing a polymerizable monomer including at least an acrylic monomer, and part of the acrylic monomer remains in the gelling agent without being polymerized. The acrylic monomer includes at least one selected from the group consisting of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, an acrylate, and a methacrylate. The weight ratio of the remaining acrylic monomer to the total weight of the polymer and the remaining acrylic monomer is 5000 ppm or less.
