摘要： Apparatus for separating individual conductor elements in a multiple-conductor flat ribbon cable including a rotatable cutting element for cutting the insulating sheathing of the cable along each of the score lines running between the individual conductor cores. The cutting element is provided with a plurality of protruding arcuate cutting edges each interrupted by a shorter indrawn non-cutting edge. Further provided is a cable support element adapted to press a cable inserted into the apparatus against the cutting edges, but not against the indrawn edges. When the indrawn edges face the cable support element, a feed-in and feed-out gap is provided for easy insertion and removal of the cable.

摘要： A tool for use in stripping plastic sheath from electrical cable has first and second handles pivotally connected in a scissor-like configuration so that each handle has a grip portion and a jaw portion. Each jaw portion carries a jaw element with a transverse cutting blade and a longitudinal slitting blade. The cable is inserted between the jaw elements so that it extends through the tool between and generally parallel to the handles. When the grip portions are moved together, the jaw elements engage the cable so that each transverse blade makes a transverse cut through the plastic sheath. At the same time each longitudinal blade makes a slit in the plastic sheath near the transverse cut. The tool is then pulled toward a free end of the cable so that each longitudinal blade slits the plastic sheath to the free end. The transverse blades are pivotally mounted on the jaw elements so that they swing away from their cutting position when the tool is moved along the cable. The slit parts of the cable are then peeled away from the interior wires and broken off from the sheath at the transverse cuts.

摘要： A mechanical apparatus and tool for clearing small areas of the plastic film insulation in flat flexible circuits and cables to permit making electrical connections to the metal foil conductors. An end-mill-like rotating cutter is fed into the laminated workpiece. Novel cutter geometry provides differential requirements of feed force and torque, cutting two to three times more easily into plastic than into copper. Means are provided to limit the feed force to prevent penetration into the copper foil. Means responsive to torque may be employed to retract the cutting tool automatically. A novel spring-loaded telescoping chuck is applicable to limit the feed force in single-spindle or multiple-spindle machines. The sides of the tool are slightly hollow-ground to reduce the feed-force required. The lips may be ground slightly convex to compensate for the elastic indentation of the workpiece.
