    Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods are described for formatting packets for downstream satellite links. The generation of a broadband wireless signal is described, the signal to be transmitted between a gateway and subscriber terminals via satellite. Respective data link layer addresses for the subscriber terminals may each be associated with one or more shortened identifiers for use in lieu of the associated data link layer addresses. This addressing may be included in a stream encapsulation header for an appended data packet. One or more such headers and their appended data packets may then be encapsulated in a baseband frame for transmission within a physical layer frame. Data packets may be fragmented across physical layer frames, and a range of novel formatting techniques may be used to implement the fragmentation.

    Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for processing transmissions and creating an album of audio content are described. In one arrangement, a combined signal including a digital data component and an analog component is transmitted and received by a terminal. The combined signal is separated into the digital data component and the analog component. The analog component is digitized and then cut based upon the digital data component. Metadata from the digital data component is associated with the digitized analog component to create an album of audio content. The album may be stored or sent to an audio player for output. The digital data component may include cutting information and information data. The analog component may be an analog frequency modulation signal and the digital component may be a subcarrier signal in accordance with the DARC standard.

    Abstract: Described are methods and apparatus that allow viewers to access timely data showing what other viewers are watching at (or near) a given moment. Thus, for example, a viewer could tune in, find out which ten programs currently being broadcast are most popular, and then select from among these programs. In one embodiment, the data is displayed with links to those popular programs so viewers can easily tune to listed programs. In another embodiment, the viewer can identify a group of friends and find out what those friends are watching.
