Abstract: A calibration system for media content comprises a memory, a media device, a plurality of different types of sensors, and a control circuitry. The memory is configured to store a media item and expected-emotions-tagging metadata for the media item. The control circuitry is configured to compute a reaction delay for a first emotional response of the audience captured by the plurality of different types of sensors for a first scene of the media item with respect to a position of the first marker. The first scene of the media item spans a first time slot that corresponds to the first scene in the media item. The control circuitry is configured to calibrate the position of the first marker to associate a first set of frames of the first scene with the first emotional response, based on at least the computed reaction delay.

Abstract: The perception of a displayed image is altered for viewers moving relative to the position of the display system screen, thereby imparting a sense of three-dimensional immersion in the scene being displayed. A display generator generates a scene having foreground and background elements, and a display screen displaying the scene. A sensor detects the position of a viewer relative to the display screen, and a processor is operative to shift the relative position of the foreground and background elements in the displayed scene as a function of viewer position, such that the viewer's perspective of the scene changes as the viewer moves relative to the display screen. The foreground and background elements may be presented in the form of multiple superimposed graphics planes, and/or a camera may be used to record the scene through panning at sequential angles. The system may be used to implement virtual windows, virtual mirrors and other effects without requiring viewers or users to modify behavior or wear glasses, beacons, etc.

Abstract: During a live stream of a main content to a user, a biometric response of the user is measured during a first streamed portion of the main content. The biometric response is analyzed to detect an event in the first streamed portion of the main content. The biometric response of the user during the event indicates that the event is a user-specific climactic event. Based on the analysis, a user-specific set of feature values is computed that are representative of the user-specific climactic event in the first streamed portion of the main content. A user-specific non-climactic period is forecasted in a future portion of the live stream during which a likelihood of an occurrence of any user-specific climactic event is below a threshold likelihood. A secondary content is inserted during the user-specific non-climactic period.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus to count people are disclosed. Example people counting apparatus disclosed herein include a difference calculator to calculate a degree of similarity between a first characteristic dataset and a second characteristic dataset representative of face detections in images. Disclosed example people counting apparatus also include a limiter to store the first characteristic dataset and the second characteristic dataset in a plurality of characteristic datasets associated when the degree of similarity does not satisfy a threshold, and to store the first characteristic dataset in the plurality of characteristic datasets and discard the second characteristic dataset when the degree of similarity satisfies the threshold to limit a number of stored characteristic datasets. Disclosed example people counting apparatus further include a comparator to compare the plurality of characteristic datasets to each other to determine a number of unique faces in an environment during a first period of time.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides computer-implemented systems and processes for augmenting user ratings of items, such as a rating of a song playing on a user device, by analyzing contextual information, such as user and/or device activity data associated with the device. The contextual information may be used to determine an associated intensity of the rating or feedback. The determined intensity levels can be used to weigh the associated rating events and improve the quality of item recommendations that are based on such ratings. Contextual information may indicate whether the user transitioned from another application to rate an item, device status information, and so on. In one embodiment, contextual information can be used to assess how intensely the user feels about a music item and to provide improved music recommendations, such as songs to provide in a playlist or radio station, based on the intensity.

Abstract: Systems and methods for performing an action based on viewing positions of other users are provided. Viewing progress in a media asset of each of a plurality of users is retrieved. The viewing progress of each of the plurality of users is compared to identify a maximum viewing progress that is common to each of the plurality of users. A request from a user to access the media asset is received. A current viewing progress in the media asset of the user is monitored to determine when the current viewing progress of the user matches the identified maximum viewing progress that is common to each of the plurality of users. In response to determining that the current viewing progress of the user matches the identified maximum viewing progress, a message with an option to perform an action relative to the media asset is generated for display to the user.

Abstract: In the following, a content delivery system delivers a modified version of a media asset to a current content consuming user. Control information identifying a desired attribute of the modified version of the asset is received from the current content consuming user. The media asset is modified based on the control information and audience reaction data associated with the media asset and generated by analyzing at least a previous content consuming user's reactions to the media asset while the media asset was supplied to a media output device of the previous content consuming user.

Abstract: A method, computer program product, and system for obscuring inappropriate content in video media includes a processor(s) communicating with one or more sensors, to identify individuals within a designated area that is within a visual range of a monitor. The processor(s) obtains viewing preferences for each of the identified individuals; the preferences designate parameters for viewing media that includes content within pre-defined categories. The processor(s) consolidates the viewing preferences of the identified individuals to generate a set of guidelines for displaying content in the designated area. The processor(s) analyzes video media for display on the monitor to locate content in the categories. The processor(s) applies the set of guidelines to the content and determines that a portion of the content should be obscured when the video media is displayed on the monitor. The processor(s) displays the video media on the monitor, obscuring the portion of the content.
