    摘要: A method of and apparatus for adjusting the preload of an anti-friction bearing is disclosed. A compressive load is applied to the opposite transverse faces of the outer races of a linear bearing by hydraulic or pneumatic cylinders. While the bearing assembly is held in compression, a test force is applied to one end of the inner race or slide in a direction parallel to its constrained direction of travel to cause the slide to move through the bearing at a steady rate of travel. While the slide is in motion, rolling friction characteristics are measured by a force gauge. The resulting force gauge measurement corresponds to a particular bearing preload. The compressive load is re-adjusted as necessary under control of a closed-loop feedback system to achieve a value in an acceptable preload range, followed by final assembly of the bearing with a layer of high-strength adhesive applied to the overlapping flanges of the bearing to create a bond having sufficient strength with which to retain that preload for the anticipated service life of the bearing.

    摘要: A method for the production of a guide rail for linear guiding and having a hardened rolling body race groove on opposite sides of the guide rail. In order to minimize production costs and avoid cutting of the race grooves, the race grooves are initially spaced at a distance that is greater or smaller than their finally desired value, by an incremental distance. Grooves are provided centrally in the guide rail between the opposed race grooves, and the race rail is then hardened except in the region of the central grooves. Compression rollers in the race grooves or central grooves are then forced into the guide rail to decrease or increase respectively the distance between the race grooves until the desired distance therebetween is obtained. The method can also be employed when only a single race groove is provided on the rail.

    摘要: A self-aligning bearing and a method of forming and mounting such bearing such that it may be conveniently removed and replaced from an apertured portion of a supporting wall under conditions when access is had to one side of the wall and only limited access to the other side of the wall is available thereby obviating the necessity of expensive and time-consuming removal and replacement of constructional parts that would otherwise deny access to such other side of the wall. This in general, is accomplished by forming an apertured ball within an outer race member, threading and notching opposite ends of the race member to provide a notched portion and a threaded portion at each end of the race member, and threading a separate nut on each of the threaded portions with a deformable ring interposed between the corresponding wall and nut. Each ring has a first tab that engages a corresponding notch and a second tab that is engageable with a flat portion of a corresponding nut upon deformation of said second tab. There is, for selection, one or more notches on one end of the race member and also one or more notches on the other end of the race member with such notches on opposite ends being staggered circumferentially so that if and when desired the same bearing may be removed and replaced, end for end, in the wall opening even though there is very limited access to one side of the wall.

    摘要: A linear ball bearing unit made of a linear ball bearing and an elongated track shaft as well as a method for manufacturing the bearing unit. The linear ball bearing consists of balls, a half-split bearing case, which in turn is formed by splitting an elongated square bar presenting a plurality of guide grooves for the balls along diametrically opposing two grooves, and a half-split ball retainer also presenting a plurality of guide grooves of the balls. The elongated track shaft is assembled with said linear ball bearing. The line passing through a first point of contact between a loaded ball and its corresponding R-groove in the track shaft and a second point of contact between the same loaded ball and its corresponding R-groove in the bearing case meets a horizontal line at an acute angle. The line passing through a third point of contact between another R-groove in the track shaft and one of the balls in the same groove and a fourth point of contact between the same one of the balls and its corresponding R-groove in the bearing case meets a vertical line at an acute angle. Such angles impart strength, particularly against upward thrust.
