摘要: A method of making synthetic fireplace logs or the like and the logs so produced. Approximately 80-95% by weight of pulverized coal is mixed with 5-20% by weight of dry paraffin to form a heterogeneous mixture. The mixture is fed into a cylindrical log mold and subjected to pressures of approximately 5,000 to 12,000 psi. The logs are then coated with a liquid paraffin.

摘要: A novel fuel log is manufactured by pulverizing raw, carbonaceous material to form granules which are mixed with binder in a hopper and then compacted under pressure to form cylindrical logs. To assure thorough mixing of granules and binder, the binder is sprayed inwardly from the hopper wall while the granules are dispensed from above to drop through the spray. The binder thus tends to coat the entire surface of each granule prior to compaction. Because the surface of each granule is uniformly coated with binder, no voids or discontinuities in the structure are formed. The resulting fuel log is highly resistant to chipping and fracturing, and burning is more uniform.

摘要: A primed fuel is manufactured by the application of particles of a combustible primer, such as wax, to a fuel, such as charred wood. In the method and apparatus of this manufacture, fuel is transported through a deposition zone within the apparatus. A liquid supply of combustible primer is provided and formed into droplets and deposited in droplet form onto the fuel, preferably by electrostatic deposition. The primer tends to be preferentially deposited at the more readily ignitable edge of the fuel.

摘要: A method of improving the mechanical resistance of coke comprises forming a liquor of fine grained coal and oil with the oil being of from 5% to 30% of the total weight, forming coal pellets of the liquor at an increased temperature of from approximately 80.degree. to 100.degree. C, and heating the pellets to transform them into coke in a known coking process. Prior to being carbonized, the pellets are advantageously coated with a separating layer of a substance preventing agglomeration, such as hematite ore, lime, fine coke, etc.

摘要: A receiver for irregularly shaped bricks cast from non-volatile bituminous material includes a receiver with a specialized storage chamber that can receive viscous bituminous material and a concave lid preferably modified with a radiant heating system that can accept and melt or soften arriving bricks. The lid includes multiple openings or other delivery routes that funnel the melted bituminous material to the chamber below. The radiant heating system can be electrical where cables or grids are embedded in the lid or where conductive materials coat or are distributed throughout the lid. Alternatively, the radiant heating system can be hydronic where channels or conduits are embedded in the lid to circulate heated liquid such as water or water mixed with propylene glycol. The receiver can also include blenders, skimmers, and additional heaters to further skim, blend, or process the bituminous material collected in the chamber.
