Abstract: A system and method of directionally steering a bottom hole assembly (“BHA”) by receiving data indicative of a directional trend of the BHA and a projection to bit depth; determining a location of the BHA based on the received data; comparing the location of the BHA to a planned drilling path to identify an amount of deviation; automatically creating a modified drilling path based on the amount of deviation and a predicted trend of a downhole parameter; detecting a trend of the downhole parameter while drilling along the modified drilling path; and automatically creating a further modified drilling path when the trend of the downhole parameter is a reversal of the predicted trend of the downhole parameter. The predicted trend of the downhole parameter is an increase of a d-exponent factor or a d-exponent-corrected factor with an increase in depth.

Abstract: A sidetracking method includes lowering a sidetrack assembly to a target zone of a wellbore comprising a casing. The sidetrack assembly comprising a cutting tool coupled to a wellbore string and a whipstock releasably coupled to the cutting tool. The method includes setting the whipstock on a wall of the wellbore, pulling the wellbore string, decoupling the cutting tool from the whipstock, actuating the cutter, cutting along a cut profile of the casing to cut free a portion of the casing at the target zone, actuating the mechanical fasteners, fastening the portion of the casing to the cutting tool, pulling the wellbore string, detaching the portion of the casing from the wall of the wellbore, drilling, with a directional drill string a sidetrack wellbore extending from the window to a downhole location of the sidetrack wellbore, and removing the whipstock from the wellbore.

Abstract: The disclosure presents processes that utilize collected resistivity data, for example, from an ultra-deep resistivity tool located downhole a borehole. In some aspects, each slice of resistivity data can generate multiple distribution curves that can be overlaid offset resistivity logs. In some aspects, an analysis can be performed to identify trends in the distribution curves that can be used to identify approximate locations of subterranean formation surfaces, shoulder beds, obstacles, proximate boreholes, and other borehole and geological characteristics. As the number of distribution curves generated increase, the confidence in the analysis also increases. In some aspects, the number of distribution curves can be twenty, one hundred, one hundred and one, or other counts of distribution curves. In some aspects, the resistivity data can be used to generate two or more synchronized view perspectives of a specific location along the borehole, where each view perspective uses the same focus area.

Abstract: Current disclosure proposes calibration methodology that uses the knowledge learned from historical data and real-time data to update a simplified physics-based borehole propagation model for real time steering control of a directional drilling system. The proposed methodology updates model parameters of the simplified physics-based model in real time through a process of setting up and optimizing an objective function, which indicates the difference between the estimated trajectory and the feedback from the real-time data. Penalizing terms, which prevent the parameters from deviating drastically from the prior knowledge of the parameter, and various components of the objective function are learned from the historical data. As a result, the updated model can accurately estimate and predict the system behavior allowing an input sequence of the system to be accurately mapped to the output response.

An energy conversion system is configured to convert energy from the tiered geothermal loop energy production system to another form of energy.
