    摘要: Each data lane connected to a FPGA and forming part of a SFI channel may be trained independently to enable the outputs from the FPGA to be aligned. In operation, a known fixed pattern is repeated on each of the data lanes with the exception of the data lane being trained. The short fixed pattern is smaller than an SERDES capture range so that the SERDES may temporarily lock onto the short fixed pattern for all data lanes other than the lane being trained. Training data is then transmitted on the lane being trained and the preskew delay for that lane is adjusted until the receiving component indicates that the lanes are aligned. This process may iterate to find acceptable preskew delay values for all lanes. By training the lanes one at a time and using a short repeating pattern on the untrained lanes, the SERDES may register that the untrained lanes are operating correctly so that the feedback from the SERDES is related only to the lane being trained.

    摘要: A data communication apparatus having a plurality of working ports for exchanging data traffic with a network element and at least one protection port. The communication apparatus also has a protection switching functional element to switch data traffic from a failed working port to the at least one protection port. The protection switching functional element is capable to acquire either one of a first mode of operation and a second mode of operation. The first mode of operation is an 1:Q mode using a single protection port where Q is the number of working ports and Q is equal or greater than 1. The second mode of operation is an M:N mode where M is the number of protection ports and N is the number of working ports, where M and N are greater than 1.

    摘要: Device-wide performance guarantees may be implemented in a network element using a pull forwarding scheme by using separate processes on the network element communicating via handshake signals to enable coordination between the aspects of the network element. One class of processes execute at the ingress queues, a second class of process execut at junction points, and a final class of processes execute at the egress ports. The combination of these separate processes leads to the correct scheduling of frames in a device-wide manner as if there were a centralized scheduler with complete information about all queued frames. As a result, the performance guarantees of the intended scheduling algorithm are preserved and are provided in a device-wide manner. The scheduling algorithms that are supported include round-robin, deficit round robin, negative deficit round robin, weighted round robin, and strict priority.

    摘要: VPN tunnels may be established from a wireless user through a wireless network without requiring the wireless user to have a relationship with the wireless network. Instead, the wireless user interfaces with an authentication, authorization, and accounting service on a VPN host network. This allows the wireless user to sign on once to gain admittance to both the wireless network and the VPN host network. The VPN host network is able to establish accounts on various wireless network providers to alleviate the need for wireless users to have individual accounts with the wireless providers. Additionally, a wireless access point on the wireless network serves as a VPN gateway to interface between an encrypted session on the wireless network and a VPN tunnel formed between the wireless access point and the VPN host network. This allows the wireless access device to participate in a VPN tunnel without instantiating a VPN client.

    摘要: The performance and ease of management of wireless communications environments is improved by a mechanism that enables access points (APs) to perform automatic channel selection. A wireless network can therefore include multiple APs, each of which will automatically choose a channel such that channel usage is optimized. Furthermore, APs can perform automatic power adjustment so that multiple APs can operate on the same channel while minimizing interference with each other. Wireless stations are load balanced across APs so that user bandwidth is optimized. A movement detection scheme provides seamless roaming of stations between APs.

    摘要: Redundant wireless links in a meshed backhaul network may be used to improve quality of service on the backhaul network by confining knowledge of the duality to the attached network elements. Globally, an aggregate bandwidth of the redundant wireless links may be advertised to allow network level routing to treat the redundant links as a single logical link. At the link level, however, the network elements may differentiate between different types of traffic to provide preferential service to particular types of traffic. By using different physical links within the logical link for particular types of traffic, the quality of service for that type of traffic may be improved by not causing different types of traffic to compete for the same bandwidth. The redundant links may be interfaced using a tower network including a radio accessed router optionally powered using solar power, to isolate the tower network from ground equipment.
