摘要: A building surface area measurement system for efficiently measuring the surface area for a room. The building surface area measurement system generally includes a housing having a triangular shaped base, wherein the housing includes a first side positionable adjacent to a first wall and a second side positionable adjacent to a second wall in a corner, a first measuring unit within the housing directed parallel to the first wall to measure the width of the first wall, a second measuring unit within the housing directed parallel to the second wall to measure the width of the second wall, and an upper measuring unit directed upwardly parallel to the height of the walls. A control unit within the housing is in communication with the measuring units and utilizes the measurement data to calculate the total surface area of the room or the two walls. A display unit within the housing displays the calculated information.

摘要: An optically variable device and method of manufacturing the device is disclosed, the device including a plurality of zero-order diffraction grating elements some of which are modulated such that a coloured at least partially polarised image is visible to a person viewing the device, observing a first optically variable effect when the device is rotated about an axis substantially perpendicular to the plane, and a second optically variable effect when the device is viewed under polarised light and rotated about an axis substantially perpendicular to or parallel with the plane. The device is particularly suitable for security documents such as bank notes. Preferably, the first optically variable effect is produced by a change in brightness and/or colour of the grating elements and the second optically variable effect may likewise be produced by a change in brightness and/or colour of the grating elements. The device advantageously provides two different types of optically variable effect may be provided in a single device. This is possible due to the use of zero-order grating elements as the “pixels” of the coloured image. Each pixel, under illumination by unpolarised light, produces reflected light of a defined colour which is also at least partially polarised.

摘要: A gaming machine and method are provided which allow a player to play a gaming machine. The gaming machine and method allow a player to make a wager, display a first game on a display device, generate an outcome associated with the first game, and award the player an award for the first game based at least in part on the generated first game outcome. In addition, the gaming machine determines if a triggering condition occurred, displays a second game if the triggering condition has occurred, and calculates a current trigger cycle of the generated second game. The current trigger cycle is equal to a number of first games played after an occurrence of a previous second game triggering condition. The player is provided an award for the second game based at least in part on the second game current trigger cycle.

摘要: Methods and devices for the measurement of molecular binding interactions. Preferred embodiments provide real-time measurements of kinetic binding and disassociation of molecules including binding and disassociation of protein molecules with other protein molecules and with other molecules. In preferred embodiments ligands are immobilized within pores of a porous silicon interaction region produced in a silicon substrate, after which analytes suspended in a fluid are flowed over the porous silicon region. Binding reactions occur when analyte molecules diffuse closely enough to the ligands to become bound. Preferably the binding and subsequent disassociation reactions are observed utilizing a white light source and thin film interference techniques with spectrometers arranged to detect changes in indices of refraction in the region where the binding and disassociation reactions occur. In preferred embodiments both ligands and analytes are delivered by computer controlled robotic fluid flow control techniques to the porous silicon interaction regions through microfluidic flow channels.

摘要: An optical device which generates an optically variable image, the image being optically variable in that it varies according to the position of observation, is manufactured by dividing an optically invariable image into multiple pixels. Color component values are determined for each pixel. For each of the pixels of the optically invariable image, there is determined an associated pixel surface structure which has a three-dimensional surface shape and curvature which is related via a mathematical of computer algorithm to the color component values of the associated pixel in the optically invariable image, each pixel surface structure being an individual reflective or diffractive surface structure which produces an observable optical effect. An assembly of the reflective or diffractive pixel surface structures is produced which when illuminated generates a plurality of observable optical effects which combine to form an optically variable reproduction of the optically invariable image.
