    摘要: A method for connecting a photonic crystal fiber having a plurality of cores connected to an optical device. An end of the photonic crystal fiber may be placed on a surface of an optical device having a plurality of coupling pads. A first core of the end of the photonic crystal fiber may be positioned over a first coupling pad on the optical device to enable a threshold amount of a coherent beam of light to propagate through the first core and first coupling pad. A second core of the end of the photonic crystal fiber is aligned to a second coupling pad on the optical device to enable a threshold amount of another coherent beam of light to propagate through the second core and second coupling pad. The end of the photonic crystal fiber may be adhered to the surface of the optical device while the position of the first and the second cores relative to the first and the second coupling pads, respectively, is maintained.

    摘要: Determination of a sensor device location in a sensor network is described. A system can include rotating optical beams having a known location. Detectors can be located with each of the rotating optical beams. The system can include a sensor device placeable as part of the sensor network. A reflector can be near the sensor device and can reflect at least two optical beams back to the detectors associated with each of the respective optical beams. A triangulation module can triangulate a position of the reflector, and thus the sensor, based on the reflected optical beams.

    摘要: A system and method for an electrically pumped laser system is disclosed. The system includes a silicon micro-ring resonator 405. A quantum well 412 formed of a III-V group semiconductor material is optically coupled with the micro-ring resonator 405 to provide optical gain. A trapezoidal shaped buffer 414 formed of a III-V group semiconductor material and doped with a first type of carrier is optically coupled to the quantum well 412. A ring electrode 410 is coupled to the trapezoidal shaped buffer 414. The trapezoidal shaped buffer 414 enables the ring electrode 410 to be substantially isolated from an optical mode of the micro-ring resonator 405.

    摘要: Various embodiments of the present invention are directed to compact systems for generating polarization-entangled photons. In one embodiment of the present invention, a non-degenerate, polarization-entangled photon source comprises a half-wave plate that outputs both a first pump beam and a second pump beam, and a first beam displacer that directs the first pump beam into a first transmission channel and the second pump beam into a second transmission channel. A down-conversion device converts the first pump beam into first signal and idler photons and converts the second pump beam into second signal and idler photons. A second beam displacer directs both the first signal and idler photons and the second signal and idler photons into a single transmission channel. A dichroic mirror directs the first and second signal photons to a first fiber optic coupler and the first and second idler photons to a second fiber optic coupler.
