    摘要: A cell unit for use in fuel cells of the type using an electrode portion having an anode formed of a plate or film on one surface of an electrolyte and a cathode formed of a plate or film on the other surface. An anode side plate of the invention has stepped portions to form recesses which accommodate the electrode and provide an anode side chamber facing the anode. A cathode side plate having a cathode side chamber facing the cathode is also accommodated in the recessed portions of the anode side plate. A fuel supply manifold and a fuel discharge manifold can extend through the stepped portions. Use of such cell units reduces the number of seal members required between fuel or oxidant manifolds when cell units are stacked to form a fuel cell stack. Such reduction in seal members simplifies fabrication of the units and renders the cell unit easier to maintain and repair.

    摘要: The present invention is directed to a non-aqueous electrolyte battery comprising an anode, a cathode using a carbon material, and a non-aqueous electrolytic solution, wherein the carbon material obtained by coating a core composed of graphitized carbon in which spacing (d.sub.002) of lattice planes (002) is in the range of 3.35 to 3.39 .ANG. and the length (Lc) of a crystallite in the direction of the c axis is not less than 1000 .ANG. with coating graphitized carbon in which spacing (d.sub.002) of lattice planes (002) is more than that in the graphitizing carbon and is in the range of 3.36 to 3.48 .ANG., the carbon material obtained by coating a core composed of graphitized carbon in which spacing (d.sub.002) of lattice planes (002) is in the range of 3.35 to 3.39 .ANG. with a calcined product of an organic substance composed of carbon containing sulfur atoms, or the carbon material composed multi-phase graphitized carbon having two or more crystals respectively different crystallinities in one particle, the length (Lc) of a crystallite in the direction of the c axis in each of the crystals being not less than 10 .ANG., are used for the cathode.

    摘要: A nonaqueous electrolyte battery comprises a positive electrode comprising a mixture of manganese dioxide and a fluorinated graphite as a positive electrode active material, a negative electrode comprising lithium metal or a substance capable of occluding and discharging lithium ion as a negative electrode material, and a nonaqueous electrolyte, said fluorinated graphite being represented by the formula (CFx)n wherein 1.2.ltoreq..times..ltoreq.1.4 and contained in said mixture in a ratio by weight of 0.1 to 4%. This battery undergoes minimal self discharge and has excellent storage capability, since reaction products formed by reaction of manganese dioxide and the nonaqueous electrolyte used minimally react with lithium on the negative electrode side.

    摘要: A hydrogen storage alloy, for use in alkaline storage batteries, having a CaCu5-type crystal structure and represented by the compositional formula MmNixCoyMnzMl-z (wherein M represents at least one element selected from the group consisting of aluminum (Al) and copper (Cu); x is a nickel (Ni) stoichiometry and satisfies 3.0≦x≦5.2; y is a cobalt (Co) stoichiometry and satisfies 0≦y≦1.2; z is a manganese (Mn) stoichiometry and satisfies 0.1≦z≦0.9; and the sum of x, y and z satisfies 4.4≦x+y+z≦5.4). The hydrogen storage alloy includes a bulk region having a CaCu5-type crystal structure and a substantially uniform composition and a surface region surrounding said bulk region and having a graded composition. When the sum in percentage of numbers of cobalt (Co) atoms and copper (Cu) atoms present in the surface region is given by a and that in the bulk region by b, the relationship a/b≧1.3 is satisfied.
