    摘要: A method of making an optochemical sensor, the method comprising: providing a reflective substrate having a major surface; affixing a detection layer comprising at least one intrinsically microporous polymer to at least a portion of the major surface; depositing a substantially continuous semi-reflective metallic layer on at least a portion of the detection layer, the semi-reflective metallic layer comprising palladium and having a network of fine irregular cracks therein; and heating the detection layer and semi-reflective metallic layer in the presence of molecular oxygen at a temperature sufficient to cause the cracks to widen. Sensors prepared according to method are also disclosed.

The article may be made by providing a transparent body portion bearing a layer of internally reflecting open air-exposed cube-corner optical elements; treating or coating at least a portion of the cube-corner elements to make the treated or coated portion more hydrophobic, more oleophobic, or both more hydrophobic and more oleophobic than the underlying cube-corner optical elements; and leaving such treated or coated portion exposed to the open air.

    摘要: A wear-resistant thin-film magnetic head assembly and method of making same. The head assembly includes a wear-resistant layer of diamond-like carbon and a substrate of titanium carbide particles dispersed in an alumina matrix. Adhesion of the diamond-like carbon to the substrate is improved by depositing an adhesion promoting layer on the substrate. A second adhesion promoting layer can be deposited onto the diamond-like carbon layer to facilitate the deposition of electromagnetic circuitry on the diamond-like carbon layer. Diamond-like carbon can be used as an insulator anywhere inside the head assembly. The present invention simplifies the construction of a head assembly and increases its resistance to wear by moving magnetic media.

    摘要: An apparatus (9) for plasma treating multiple containers. The apparatus includes a manifold (2) comprising at least a first chamber with multiple outlet openings and multiple hollow, electrically-conductive nozzles (10) for at least one of delivering or exhausting plasma-generating gas. The multiple hollow, electrically-conductive nozzles are connected to the multiple outlet openings and protrude from the manifold. A method of plasma treating multiple containers is also disclosed. The method includes providing a reactor system comprising an apparatus disclosed herein, inserting the multiple hollow, electrically-conductive nozzles into the multiple containers (30), evacuating the multiple containers, grounding the multiple hollow, electrically-conductive nozzles while applying radio frequency power to the multiple containers, providing a gas inside the containers, and generating a plasma. At least one of evacuating or providing the gas is carried out through the hollow, electrically-conductive nozzles.
