Abstract:
A system that provides a wireless broadband connection between base stations and customer sites is described. The system includes indoor units within the base stations and customer sites and communicate across cables to outdoor units. The indoor units linked to routers, switches and other devices and services. The outdoor units transmit and receive wireless data and send it to the indoor units. The indoor units can store software instructions in the outdoor unit. This allows the indoor units to automatically detect problems with outdoor unit and download new software to them in case of an error.
Abstract:
A gas turbine engine includes a compressor section, a combustion section communicating with and disposed downstream of the compressor section relative to a direction of airflow, and a gas turbine section communicating with and disposed downstream of the combustion section relative to a direction of airflow. One of the sections has a wall defining an opening to access an airflow through the sections. A bleed diffuser assembly is disposed over the opening, and includes a housing including inlet and outlet ends. A diffuser having inlet and outlet ends is movably disposed within the housing. An actuator is coupled to the diffuser for moving the diffuser generally toward the inlet end of the housing and into an operative position when the actuator is energized. A biasing member is provided for urging the diffuser generally toward the outlet end of the housing and into a retracted position when the actuator is de-energized.
Abstract:
A foreign object detector for a note validator, the detector includes means defining a note path and gate means in the note path operable between an open position for allowing a note to pass the gate means and a fully closed position for preventing a note from passing the gate means. The gate means is biased towards the fully closed position. The foreign object detector also includes sensing means for detecting when the gate means is in the fully closed position. In the fully closed position, a leading edge of the gate means extends outside the note path and is received within a recess in the means defining the note path, whereby a foreign object in the note path obstructing the recess prevents the gate means from reaching the fully closed position, the sensing means thereby detecting the presence of the foreign object in the note path.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an on-line system for facilitating the production of forms, such as business cards, stationery, catalogues and generally any printed matter. Relatively permanent material for the production of forms is stored as a form structure in a computing system repository. The system receives copy information input by a user and combines it with the form structure to produce a finished artwork which is transmitted to a printery.
Abstract:
Host system data files are written directly to a large erase block flash memory system with a unique identification of each file and offsets of data within the file but without the use of any intermediate logical addresses or a virtual address space for the memory. Directory information of where the files are stored in the memory is maintained within the memory system by its controller, rather than by the host. The file based interface between the host and memory systems allows the memory system controller to utilize the data storage blocks within the memory with increased efficiency.
Abstract:
A communications network comprises two or more cell sites for communication with wireless terminals. At least one of the cell sites has multiple receive antennas. A central site has one or more interface controllers and a switch system through which the controllers are connected to the cell sites. For each controller in communication with a wireless terminal, a cell site is selected for reception of signals from the terminal, and for each selected cell site having more than one receive antenna, an antenna within the site is selected for reception from the terminal.
Abstract:
A miniature x-ray tube is cooled using a catheter preferably having multiple small lumens for inflow and outflow of coolant. Inflow may be through an outer lumen(s) in a concentric-extrusion catheter, the liquid turning back at the distal end of the catheter to a proximal flow over the anode end of the x-ray tube and through an inner lumen within which the x-ray tube is positioned. A coolant distribution head may engage with the anode end of the x-ray tube, with small orifices so as to distribute coolant essentially evenly over the anode surface. Temperature and flow rate of the inflowing coolant liquid are balanced so as to optimize heat transfer while efficiently carrying coolant through small lumens without the need for high pressures. Some embodiments use the inflation liquid in an applicator balloon as the coolant, with the liquid actively flowing or, in a simplified system, with the liquid static.
Abstract:
Update data to a non-volatile memory may be recorded in at least two interleaving streams such as either into an update block or a scratch pad block depending on a predetermined condition. The scratch pad block is used to buffered update data that are ultimately destined for the update block. Synchronization information about the order recording of updates among the streams is saved with at least one of the streams. This will allow the most recently written version of data that may exist on multiple memory blocks to be identified. In one embodiment, the synchronization information is saved in a first block and is a write pointer that points to the next recording location in a second block. In another embodiment, the synchronization information is a time stamp.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, the present invention includes a cache memory, which may be a sequential cache, having multiple banks. Each of the banks includes a data array, a decoder coupled to the data array to select a set of the data array, and a sense amplifier. Only a bank to be accessed may be powered, and in some embodiments early way information may be used to maintain remaining banks in a power reduced state. In some embodiments, clock gating may be used to maintain various components of the cache memory in a power reduced state. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
Abstract:
A method of simultaneously defining a waveguide and grating in a sample of photosensitive material comprises providing a sample of material (24) having a region which is photosensitive to light of a specific wavelength, generating a spot of light (22) at the specific wavelength, the spot having a periodic intensity pattern of high and low intensity fringes, and a width which is related to the width of the channel, positioning the spot within the photosensitive region and causing relative movement between the sample and the light spot along the desired path of the waveguide/grating define a channel of altered refractive index by exposing parts of the photosensitive region to the light spot. Modulation of the light spot to produce multiple exposures produces a grating, while continuous exposure results in a uniform waveguide. These structures can be written in straight lines or around curves, and can be accurately overwritten, so that complex optical devices can be produced in a single fabrication step.
