摘要： An arrangement for damping the resonance in a laser diode includes an additional layer (25) which together with the conventional laser diode form a structure (35) of a bipolar transistor. Therein, the additional layer serves as the collector, the cladding layer (12) next to it as the base, and the active region (11) and the other cladding layer (13) as the emitter. A capacitor (30) is connected across the base and the collector. It is chosen so that at any frequency above a certain selected frequency (f.sub.c) which is far below the resonance frequency (f.sub.res) the capacitor impedance is very low, effectively shorting the base to the collector.

摘要： Described is a system and method for tracking an asset. The system may include a plurality of wireless access points and a computing arrangement communicating with the access points. The arrangement determines a location area of the device as a function of first data and a location of each of at least three access points of the plurality of the access points. The first data includes at least one of first signal strength data and second signal strength data. The first signal strength data is indicative of a strength of a first signal transmitted by the device and received by the at least three access points. The second signal strength data is indicative of a strength of a second signal transmitted by the at least three access points and received by the device. The location area is an area within a predetermined reception range of the at least three local access points. The arrangement determines the location of the device within the location area as a function of second data and a further location of each of the at least three further access points of the plurality of access points. The second data is indicative of a travel time of a third signal from the device to each of the at least three further access points.

摘要： An abrasive, fluid jet cutting apparatus, and its method of construction and operation, are disclosed that reduce the wear and erosion problems typically experienced in the cutting jet's mixing tube. This improved fluid jet cutting apparatus comprises (a) a chamber having an inlet for receiving a pressurized fluid jet, a port for receiving a flow of abrasive particles which are entrained into the fluid jet, and an exit through which the fluid jet and entrained abrasives exit the chamber, (b) a mixing tube having an entry port for receiving said fluid jet and entrained abrasives, an inner wall for directing the flow of said fluid jet and entrained abrasives, and an outlet port through which said fluid jet and entrained abrasives exit said tube, wherein the tube entry port is proximate the chamber exit, (c) a lubricating fluid reservoir that surrounds at least a portion of the outer wall of the mixing tube, (d) wherein at least a portion of the mixing tube wall is porous, and (e) wherein the lubricating fluid passes from the lubricating reservoir and through the porous wall to lubricate at least a portion of the surface of the mixing tube wall so as to resist erosion of the tube wall when the fluid jet and entrained abrasives flow through the mixing tube.

摘要： Optical scanning of one and two-dimensional barcode symbols is carried out using a variety of ergonomic scanner embodiments which can each be used either in a hand-held mode or in a fixed-mode. In certain embodiments, hand-held scanners are described which can if required be easily positioned in a number of desired orientations on a work surface. Other embodiments disclose point-of-sale arrangements incorporating removable barcode scanners that can, where necessary, be removed from the point-of-sale unit and used by the checkout operator to scan a large or bulky item in a "point-and-shoot" mode.
