The invention is devised to provide a method of manufacturing a thin film magnetic head including a magnetoresistive element having higher reading performance. In manufacturing the thin film magnetic head, after forming an MR element 15, a pair of magnetic domain controlling layers 16 are formed by stacking a buffer layer 161, a magnetic bias layer 162 and a cap layer 163 in this order on both sides, in a track-width direction, of the MR element 15 via an insulating layer 14 respectively. Then, a cap layer 17 is formed so as to cover the upper surface of the MR element 15 and connect the pair of cap-layers 163. After that, a gap adjustment layer 18 and a top shielding layer 19 are formed in order so as to cover the pair of cap layers 163 and the cap layer 17, thereby a read head section 10 is completed. In this manner, the upper surface of the magnetic bias layer 162 is in contact only with the cap-layer 17 and the cap-layer 163, which are made of a material excellent in crystal lattice compatibility with the magnetic bias layer 162. As a result, the coercive force of the magnetic bias layer 162 can be increased. What is more, roughness of the undersurface of the top shielding layer 19 can be improved because of the presence of the cap layer 17.

The present invention comprises a column support fixed to a deck cross member extending along a width of a vehicle; a steering column supported by the column support; a column bracket disposed about an axis of the steering column in such a manner as to widen toward a front part of the vehicle, both ends of the column bracket being fixed to a body of the vehicle; and knee absorbers disposed at both sides of the column bracket, each of the knee absorbers having a base end fixed to the deck cross member and a front end facing the knees of an occupant, the front end coming into contact with the knees of the occupant. When the vehicle crashes, the occupant and his or her knees move forward to collide with the column bracket. The column bracket, however, is not displaced since both ends of the column bracket are fixed to the body of the vehicle. The knees of the occupant are guided forward along the surface of the column bracket to the right and left knee absorbers. This prevents the deformation of the steering column, and prevents the disturbance of the contracting function of a steering system for absorbing the impact energy. Moreover, the knee absorbers buckle and deform when the knees collide with them, and this results in the absorption of the impact energy to reduce the load that is applied to the knees. It is therefore possible to protect the knees of the occupant.

A system and method for treating a stenosis or blockage in a bodily fluid passageway is described. The system includes a catheter and a controller for generating radio frequency energy along a pair of output lines, a monitoring circuit for monitoring the phase of the radio frequency energy along the output lines, and an impedance matching circuit for adjusting the output impedance of the generator so that it equals that of a load, e.g., the patient. The catheter includes a catheter body which is insertable into the bodily passageway and operatively connected to the controller. A lumen in the catheter body defines an opening and a stainless steel, metallic-plated mandril is disposed within the lumen so that a terminal end thereof extends through the opening and into the bodily passageway. An internal electrode is joined to the terminal end of the mandril, with the other end of the mandril operatively connected to one of the output lines for receiving the radio frequency energy produced by the generator and delivering such energy to the terminal end and the internal electrode. An external electrode in the form of a grounding pad is located externally of a patient so that when the radio frequency energy is delivered via the mandril to the internal electrode, the same causes or enables the capacitative heating of a stenosis. The method of the present invention relates to finding the most optimal position for placement of the catheter so that optimal power may be delivered to the stenosis.
