摘要: A method for monitoring a cleaning process for a soiled medical device. The method involves cleaning the soiled device with a cleaning liquid in a cleaning chamber, exposing a detector to the cleaning liquid to measure the amount of soil removed, determining whether a sufficient amount of the soil has been removed from the soiled device so that the soiled device can be sterilized, and sterilizing the soiled device. One method of determining the amount of soil is by detecting the signal generated from the reaction between a chemical and the soil. Another method is to provide a soiled standard and measure the amount of soil removed from the soiled standard to determine whether enough soil has been removed from the soiled standard so that the soiled device can be sterilized. Another method involves measuring the amount of soil removed from the soiled device with at least two detectors.

摘要: A method for cleaning/sterilizing a medical device with a lumen comprises the steps of: a) providing a container having one enclosure and one openable and closeable interface separating the container and the enclosure, b) placing the device on a tray, c) placing the tray into the container and enclosure so that one end of the device and a portion of the tray are located in the container and the other end of the device and another portion of the tray are located in the enclosure, d) creating a pressure difference between the two ends, e) cleaning the device with a cleaning solution, f) rinsing the device with rinse solution, g) treating the device with a chemical germicide. An apparatus for cleaning/sterilizing a device with a lumen comprises a container having at least two separated close compartments. An openable and closeable interface separates the container into the compartments. A tray is adapted to be placed in the two compartments crossing the interface for accommodating the device, so that one end of the device is in one compartment and the other end is in the other compartment. A source for creating a pressure difference is provided. A cleaning mechanism adapted to clean the device is also provided.

摘要: Methods for peroxide vapor sterilization of medical devices and similar instruments having long narrow lumens or diffusion restricted areas includes the step of contacting the article to be sterilized or a diffusion-restricted environment containing said article with a source of peroxide prior to exposure to a vacuum or a vacuum followed by plasma. The methods are such that, upon vaporization of the source of peroxide caused by the vacuum, the peroxide remains in contact with the article for a time sufficient to achieve sterilization.

摘要: A system to deliver gas/vapor from solid materials. Specifically, the delivery system for the use of gas or vapor released from a solid material, such as a non-aqueous/solid hydrogen peroxide complex. The system is comprised of a delivery system that is configured to receive a plurality of disks containing the solid material and provide these disks into an injector. The injector heats the disks to produce a gas or vapor that is then provided into a chamber. The sterilization process can be done by gas or vapor alone, or in combination with plasma or ultra violet radiation. In particular, a control system automatically induces the delivery system to provide the injector with a disk and then remove the disk once the injection sequence is complete.

摘要: A device for use with an endoscope is provided. The device allows the equalization of the pressure between an internal space of the endoscope and an environment outside the endoscope. The device includes a housing defining an opening, a gas-transmissive removal zone in the opening and at least one hydrophobic breathable membrane between the gas-transmissive removal zone and the environment. The housing of the device is adapted to receive a port that is connected to an internal space of the endoscope. The gas-transmissive removal zone includes a desiccant material and a material which removes an antimicrobial agent.

摘要: A method sterilizes a device having a diffusion restricted area and a non-diffusion restricted area. The method includes the steps of contacting the device with liquid sterilant outside or inside a sterilization chamber fluidly connected to at least one pump, placing the device in the chamber (before or after the contacting step), bringing the pressure of the chamber to a first pressure range at which liquid sterilant is vaporized from the non-diffusion restricted area to sterilize the non-diffusion restricted area, and bringing the pressure of the chamber to a second pressure range at which the liquid sterilant is vaporized from the diffusion restricted area to sterilize the diffusion restricted area. The minimum pressure in the second pressure range is lower than the maximum pressure in the first pressure range.

摘要: An apparatus and process for hydrogen peroxide vapor sterilization of medical instruments and similar devices make use of hydrogen peroxide vapor released from an inorganic hydrogen peroxide complex. The peroxide vapor can be released at room temperature and atmospheric pressure; however, the pressure used can be less than 50 torr and the temperature greater than 86.degree. C. to facilitate the release of hydrogen peroxide vapor. Preferred hydrogen peroxide complexes for use in the invention include Na.sub.4 P.sub.2 O.sub.7.3 H.sub.2 O.sub.2 and KH.sub.2 PO.sub.4.H.sub.2 O.sub.2. The heating rate can be greater than 5.degree. C. Optionally, a plasma can be used in conjunction with the vapor.

摘要: A method and apparatus provide for automatically cleaning and decontaminating medical instruments. The method comprising the steps of: a) placing the medical instruments into a container after their use in a medical procedure; b) closing the container to seal the instruments inside whereby to prevent personnel contact with the instruments and any contaminants which might be thereon; c) inserting the sealed container into a washer/decontaminator and sealing the washer/decontaminator; d) the washer/decontaminator automatically opening the container and applying a washing fluid thereto to wash the instruments within the container; and e) the washer/decontaminator automatically applying a disinfectant to the container to disinfect the instruments whereby to allow safe handling thereof by personnel.
