Abstract:
The present invention relates to a stable, aqueous odor-absorbing composition, preferably for use on inanimate surfaces. The composition comprises from about 0.1% to about 20%, by weight of the composition, of solubilized, water-soluble, uncomplexed cyclodextrin and an effective amount of at least one ingredient to improve the performance of the composition selected from the group consisting of: (1) cyclodextrin compatible surfactant; (2) cyclodextrin compatible antimicrobial active; and (3) mixtures thereof. Hydrophilic perfume improves acceptance. Optionally, the composition can contain low molecular weight polyols; metallic salts to help control odor; a humectant, etc. The composition is essentially free of any material that would soil or stain fabric. The composition is preferably applied as small particle size droplets, especially from spray containers. The cyclodextrin/surfactant combination, either alone, or in combination with the other ingredients, provides improved antimicrobial activity.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an aqueous composition for reducing malodor impression. The composition comprises from about 0.01% to about 1%, by weight of the composition, of perfume wherein the perfume preferably comprises ingredients having a Clog P of 3 or smaller. Optionally, but preferably, the composition comprises from about 0.1% to about 5%, by weight of the composition of, water-soluble cyclodextrin, from about 0.1% to about 10%, by weight of the composition, of water-soluble metallic salt, from about 0% to about 3%, by weight of the composition, of solubilizing aid. The composition is essentially free of any material that would soil or stain fabric and contains less than about 5%, by weight of the composition of low molecular weight monohydric alcohols.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to the use of a dryer-added fabric softener composition, after a normal wash process, said composition having optimal characteristics for providing good coverage of fabrics that are treated, and optionally comprising at least one fabric softener component, for imparting fabric appearance benefits. The invention comprises the softener compositions in packages in association with instructions for their use in the dryer to provide protection for the fabrics, especially color care. Dryer-added fabric softener compositions containing chlorine scavenger to protect colored fabrics from chlorine in the next wash cycle are disclosed.
Abstract:
Softener actives provide color maintenance benefits for fabrics. In order to inform the consumer, the compositions containing fabric softener actives are placed in packages in association with information that advises the consumer of the benefit. Highly unsaturated fabric softener active compounds, preferably containing ester linkages, are used at levels of at least about 3 grams of fabric softener active per kilogram of fabric deposited on said fabric to provide improved softening, anti-static benefits, wear benefits, color maintenance, etc., without unacceptable oily/greasy feel and/or unacceptable rewettability.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to compositions and processes which incorporate water-soluble polymers, other than enzymes, containing .dbd.N--C(.dbd.O)-- (including PVP) and/or N-oxide groups into the wash, rinse, and/or drying cycle of a laundering process (e.g., via fabric softening compositions) for dye transfer inhibition in the subsequent wash cycle. Multiple wash cycles optimize the dye transfer inhibitor performance of these polymers, remove unwanted dye discoloration caused by dye transfer, and provide soil antiredeposition benefits.
Abstract:
Basic cleaning compositions using toxicologically-acceptable ingredients for cleaning fruits and vegetables are provided. Liquid formulations comprising detergent surfactant, such as oleate, alcohol ethoxylates, etc., and neutralized phosphoric acid are sprayed onto apples, lettuce and the like to remove soil and unwanted deposits, especially wax. Articles for applying the compositions to produce by spraying are disclosed. Use of the compositions for disinfectancy/sanitization of produce and cleaning/disinfectancy/sanitization of non-food inantimate surfaces are disclosed.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a system for delivering liquid bleach activators to solid or granular peroxygen bleach containing compositions. The preferred delivery system is liquid activators complexed with a cyclodextrin, preferably beta-cyclodextrin. The present invention also relates to a method for preparing the liquid bleach activator/cyclodextrin complexes described herein.
Abstract:
The present invention encompasses methods of controlling environmental malodors on human skin comprising the application to the skin of a composition comprising from about 0.1% to about 5%, by weight of the composition, of solubilized, water-soluble, uncomplexed cyclodextrin; and an aqueous carrier. The compositions can also comprise one or more of the following optional components: a linear dimethicone having a nominal viscosity of about 350 ecentistokes or less; low molecular weight polyols; water-soluble antimicrobial preservatives; zinc salts; water-soluble polymers; soluble carbonate and/or bicarbonate salts; chelating agents; zeolites; activated carbon; and mixtures thereof. The compositions can be applied directly as a spray, poured from a bottle and applied by hand, or applied via a wipe.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a perfume-free odor absorbing composition, which is safe for use on skin comprising from about 0.1% to about 5%, by weight of the composition, of solubilized, water-soluble, uncomplexed cyclodextrin; from about 0.1% to about 36%, by weight of the composition, of an oil phase selected from the group consisting of emollients, moisturizers, skin protectants, and mixtures thereof; one or more surfactants each having a hydrophilic/lipophilic balance of about 8-18, and wherein each surfactant, when combined with an aqueous cyclodextrin solution, provides no less than about 25% a level of odor capture as an aqueous cyclodextrin solution; and an aqueous carrier. The odor absorbing compositions of the present invention may also contain an effective amount of hydrophobic antimicrobials.
