Methods and apparatus for communicating between an access terminal (AT) and remote device via an access point (AP) are described. For communications over the air link, between an AP and an AT, a short address corresponding to the remote device is used for routing packets to/from the remote device. This conserves air link resources. However, for communicating between the AP and the remote device a longer address, e.g., a full IP address corresponding to the remote device, is used. The AT converts between the long and short addresses as information, e.g., packets, is communicated between the remote device and the AT. The long address may be, for example, an IP address corresponding to the remote device used to route packets through a Layer 2 tunnel between the remote device and the AP. In some embodiments the remote device is a remote access point.

In one aspect, a method for monitoring a paging channel includes monitoring a paging channel for a page message at scheduled paging slots, determining that an error has occurred at a given paging slot, and monitoring the paging channel for a re-page message at least one scheduled re-paging slot, where the re-paging slots occur after the given paging slot but before the next scheduled paging slot. In another aspect, a method for monitoring a paging channel includes monitoring a first one of a plurality of paging channels for a page message at scheduled paging slots, determining that an error has occurred at a given paging slot, and monitoring at least a second one of the plurality of paging channels for the page message.

In this regard, relay eNBs can forward PDCP layer communications over a routing protocol without locally processing the layer. The relay eNBs can, however, retrieve one or more parameters from a header of the PDCP layer for feedback to the donor eNB to assist in flow control, sequence number status transfer, and/or the like. In addition, routing identifier can be utilized to determine relay eNBs for receiving the packets. The routing identifier can additionally include an identifier of a radio bearer of the relay eNB communicating with the UE over which the PDCP layer communications are to be transmitted.

In particular, a donor node can create a relay protocol packet upon receiving data for a relay node from a core network. Donor node can indicate an assigned relay identifier in the relay protocol packet header to facilitate routing the packet among related downstream relay nodes to arrive at the appropriate relay node, which can process the upper layer protocol data.
