Abstract: 361,920. Filters. SWEETLAND, E. J., Piedmont, California, U.S.A. Aug. 22, 1930, No. 25172. [Class 46.] A rotary or other suction filter is placed in a closed casing which is charged with compressed air or other gas during operation of the filter. As shown a rotary disc filter with the trough 18 into which it dips is supported on rails 6 in the casing 1. Gas under pressure is supplied to the casing through a pipe 33. The liquid under treatment is supplied to the trough 18 through a pipe 32 which can be connected by a union 47 to a main 46. The distributing valve at the end of the filter shaft is connected by hose pipes 23, 54, 60 and mains 48, 52, 57 to suction for withdrawing the filtrate and for drying the cake and to a source of gas under pressure for facilitating the detachment of the cake from the sectors of the filter discs. The cakes are detached by scrapers 30 and directed by an apron 31 into a hopper 9, along which the matter is moved by a screw 10 to a discharge valve 38. The filter is rotated by an electric motor 24, to which current is conveyed through leads 44. A manhole 39 may be provided with an air lock chamber through which an operator can enter the casing while the filter is working. Liquid overflowing from the trough 18 collects in the bottom of the casing and is discharged through a float-controlled valve 13 and pipe 12. A compresser 61, Fig. 3, forces gas into a tank 62 from which it is delivered through a pressure-control valve 64 to the main 33 and at a slightly higher pressure to a tank 65 connected to the main 57. Liquid under treatment is supplied from a tank 69 by a pump 70 to the main 46 and tne liquid discharged through the pipe 12 is returned to the tank 69. When the end cover of the casing is removed the filter with the trough 18 and the motor 24 can be withdrawn on rails 71. Nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and sulphurous gas are mentioned as suitable gases which can be supplied to the casing instead of air.

Abstract: A strainer assembly for use with a floor waste receptor having vertical walls and a floor forming a well into which liquid waste material can be collected and directed toward a well discharge opening and then into a drain pipe, the vertical walls having an outer flange extending outward from the vertical walls at a position below the top surface formed by the vertical walls, and an inner ledge formed below the top surface, and the floor shaped to form a ledge around the drain opening, comprising: a well discharge opening strainer assembly; a basket strainer sized to fit in the well and over the well discharge opening strainer assembly and sit on the floor ledge, the basket strainer provided with openings sized to permit liquid water matter of a second predetermined size to move from the floor receptor well through the basket strainer and into the well discharge opening strainer assembly, and a grate strainer sized to sit on the interior ledge.

Abstract: A filter assembly and method of filtering wastewater from a washing machine. The filter has a framework for supporting a first filter stage and a second filter stage, a connection on a top of the filter assembly for connecting to a wastewater stream, a diffuser positioned to extend into the first filter stage and configured to rotate about a vertical axis of installation within the first filter stage, and a second filter stage below the first filter stage and configured to receive overflow from the first filter stage. The filter assembly does not include a motor or motorized parts and wherein the diffuser is rotatable by way of the force of the wastewater stream fed into the first filter stage to diffuse the wastewater stream and to spray the wastewater onto and through the filter media allowing the filter media to catch debris within the first filter stage.

Abstract: There is provided a system for filtering liquid. The system comprises a liquid storage reservoir and a liquid inlet reservoir. The system further comprises a filter receiving portion configured to receive a filter, such that, in use, a filter is provided between said liquid inlet reservoir and said liquid storage reservoir and is, in use, configured to filter liquid passing from the liquid inlet reservoir to the liquid storage reservoir along a first liquid flow path. The system further comprises second liquid flow path from the liquid inlet reservoir to the liquid storage reservoir which by-passes said filter.

Abstract: A dispensing apparatus for dispensing a beverage preparation ingredient from a pod. The dispensing apparatus comprises a pod support region configured to support a pod, an actuator configured to engage with a corresponding actuator engagement region of the pod, and a rotation mechanism for rotating the pod. The apparatus is configured to cause the actuation member to cause an opening to be formed in a pod supported by the pod support region. The apparatus is further configured to cause the rotation mechanism to cause the pod to rotate about an axis of rotation during a dispensing operation, so as to cause the beverage preparation ingredient to be released from the pod via said opening.

Abstract: An aquarium filtering and purifying system includes an upper display tank and a lower filter tank. The water from the upper tank can be delivered to the lower tank to a filter, such as within a surrounding filter fabric or membrane, such as a filter sock. An air tube can also be inserted into the filter tank to an unfiltered side of the filter, such as within the filter sock, to deliver air bubbles into the filter tank. The air tube can have an air stone at the end thereof to diffuse the air bubbles. Further air stones can be provided on an outside of the sock in the first compartment. Filtered water is delivered to a second compartment in the filter tank. The next compartment can have sand, and/or rocks and/or algae and/or a clean-up crew to assist in purifying the water. Water from the second compartment then passes to a third compartment, through a bubble trap, and then is pumped back to the display tank. Alternatively, the first compartment can be provided with a macro algae bed instead of a filter sock.

Abstract: An apparatus for filtering fluid has a container, a platform positioned in the interior volume of the container in a location above a bottom of the container, and a bag filter extending through a hole in the platform. The bag filter has an inlet and an outlet. The inlet is positioned at or above a top surface of the platform and an outlet positioned below the top surface of the platform such that a fluid passing through the fluid inlet of the container flows into the inlet of the bag filter and outwardly of the outlet of the bag filter so as to flow toward the fluid outlet of the container. A retainer plate is positioned over the platform and has an orifice opening to the inlet of the bag filter.
