A method for manufacturing an aluminum heat exchanger includes the steps of: obtaining a heat exchanger tube 2 by forming a Zn thermally sprayed layer on a surface of an aluminum flat tube core so as to adjust Zn adhesion amount to 1 to 10 g/m2; obtaining a heat exchanger core by alternatively arranging the heat exchanger tube 2 and an aluminum fin 3 and brazing the heat exchanger tube and the fin with end portions of the heat exchanger tube connected to aluminum headers in fluid communication; and forming a chemical conversion treatment coat (corrosion resistance coat) on a surface of the heat exchanger core by subjecting the surface of the heat exchanger core to chemical conversion treatment using at least one chemical conversion treatment agent selected from the group consisting of phosphoric acid chromate, chromic acid chromate, phosphoric acid zirconium series, phosphoric acid titanium series, fluoridation zirconium series, and fluoridation titanium series. The obtained heat exchanger has a long last good corrosion resistance and can prevent occurrence of fin detachment and pit corrosion.

The aqueous composition includes a hydroxy functional cyclic compound, such as a tannin, in an amount of at least about 500 ppm, phosphate ions, an oxidizer-accelerator, and at least one Group IVB metal compound capable of converting to a metal oxide upon application to the metal substrate, such as a fluorozirconate or fluorotitanate. The composition may further contain fluoride ions and/or iron The composition is particularly useful for corrosion resistance with a variety of metals such as iron, steel; zinc-coated surfaces, aluminum, and alloys thereof. A disaccharide may further be provided to prolong the useful life of the composition, particularly when used in spray applications.

A new processed steel sheet comprising of a steel base coated with a Zn or its alloy plating layer and a converted layer, which contains both of at least an insoluble or scarcely-soluble metal compound and at least a soluble metal compound. The insoluble or scarcely-soluble compound may be one or more of valve metal oxides or hydroxides, and the soluble compound may be one or more of valve metal fluorides. The converted layer may be also composed of one or more of complex compounds of Mn and Ti. The insoluble or scarcely-soluble compound acts as a barrier for insulation of a steel base from an atmosphere, while the soluble compound exhibits a self-repairing faculty to repair defective parts of the converted layer. Due to the converted layer, the processed steel sheet is remarkably improved in corrosion resistance, without the presence of chromium compounds which would put harmful influences on the environment.
