摘要: A mold assembly is described for molding smooth-bottomed battery cases in which the necessary compression locking of the free ends of the elongated cantilever mounted cores is achieved by providing transverse locking pins which are carried within, and actuated to extend from, the interior of the cores themselves. Since no locking pins extend from the cavity, the interior surface of the base wall of the battery case is formed relatively smooth and flat.

摘要: In the moulding of plastics material using a female mould cavity into which a number of cores are inserted, in order to prevent deflection of the cores under the action of the injected plastics material, complementarily shaped formations are provided on the free ends of the cores and the mould wall, the formations being so disposed and arranged as to produce restoring forces tending to reduce deflection of the cores and to prevent transmission of deflection between adjacent cores. Various examples of suitable formations are disclosed. The invention is illustrated with reference to its application to the manufacture of battery boxes.

摘要: Disclosed is an apparatus and process for the molding of hollow articles such as full length Foley catheters. The apparatus preferably comprises a mold with two lumen forming wires longitudinally disposed therein. A set of two receiving wires are spaced distally from the distal ends of the lumen forming wires and are longitudinally aligned therewith. A first follower is slidably disposed about the lumen forming wires in close abutment with the wires and inside wall of the mold. The first follower is preferably disposed toward the proximal end of the mold and preferably at least two other followers are provided spaced distally of the first follower. One of the other followers preferably bridges the space between the lumen forming wires and receiving wires. Sets of gates are preferably provided along the length of the mold in fluid communication with a source of molding material. In practice, molding material is injected into the molding channel at the proximal end of the mold and flows longitudinally toward the distal end of the mold while pushing the first follower along the wire ahead of it. As the follower proceeds toward the distal end of the mold, it engages and pushes the remaining followers toward the distal end of the mold. At the beginning of the molding process, each set of gates has a follower that is transversely aligned with it so as to seal the set of gates and prevent the flow of molding material through the set of gates and into the mold. In this fashion, molding material is not introduced through a set of gates and into the mold until all followers are distally located from the set of gates.

摘要: This invention relates to a nozzle seal to be used in multi-cavity valve-gated injection molding. A heater cast with a lower nozzle portion is spaced from a cavity plate by an insulating air space and the valve pin reciprocates vertically in the heater cast bore into a gate in the cavity plate. A hollow generally cylindrical nozzle seal is provided across the air space between the lower tip of the nozzle portion and the cavity plate around the gate. The cylindrical seal provides additional heat transfer from the heater to the area of the gate to facilitate operation of the valve pin, particularly seating of the valve pin in the gate, during molding of certain plastic materials with high temperature characteristics. The nozzle seal is formed of a high yield strength titanium alloy and structured to avoid leakage or breakage in this critical area due to high injection pressure and both vertical and lateral relative movement between the nozzle and the cavity plate due to thermal expansion and contraction. In a second embodiment, a lower portion of the seal is tapered to improve sealing at high pressures and heat transfer to the immediate gate area and to avoid a "dead spot" for the accumulation of molten plastic material adjacent the gate.

Core rods are held in bushings which have flanges that maintain the core rods parallel to one another. The movement permits the spacing of the core rods to change as necessary to compensate for changes in the spacing of the mold cavities as temperature differences between the mold and the head that carries the core rods causes the core rods and mold cavities to have different center line spacings.

摘要: A mold and molding method for all plastic shotshell cases to inject the plastic into the mold cavity from a sprue at the center of the mold cavity forming the closed end of the shotshell case and to simultaneously fill all portions of the mold cavity without necessitating forming a weld line, and maintaining the entire periphery of the shotshell case uniform in thickness by holding the core within the mold cavity concentrically of the movable mold parts with a rigid core pin on the end of the core and seated in the sprue, the core pin having grooves for carrying molten plastic into the cavity while the pin is seated in the sprue for holding the core concentric of the mold cavity.
