摘要: The exhaust gases from an internal combustion engine are processed for release to the atmosphere or for delivery to a consuming point, such as a subsurface oil producing formation, by passage through a catalytic converter which reduces or eliminates corrosive, combustible, and other undesirable components of the exhaust. In order to insure the presence in the gases of optimum chemical components for effecting the catalytic reaction, an exhaust analyzer and controller adjusts the supply to the engine of an additive of different BTU value than the main fuel supply.

摘要: Improved automotive catalytic converter capable of operating for long periods at inlet-outlet gas temperature differentials of 1,000*F or more contains a ''''floating'''' bed of particulate catalyst. An ''''anti-backfire'''' pin maintains the spacing between the bed and the inlet housing cover and prevents any deformation caused by a sudden increase in inlet gas pressure due to the presence of excess oxygen and unburned hydrocarbons downstream of the exhaust valves. The catalyst bed or chamber is defined by a pair of facing, dish-shaped members drawn from a perforated metal screen and welded to each other along circumferential radial flange portions. The welded radial flanges on the bed are free to slidably move in their common plane of contact relative to a pair of surrounding, spaced apart flanges on the housing which are welded together at points beyond the range of movement of the bed. The anti-backfire pin is centrally mounted for rocking movement relative to the housing under thermal exercising. The pin has spherically dished washers joined to its ends which are held in sliding engagement with embossed areas in the cover members which have a corresponding shape.

摘要: A catalytic converter in which exhaust gases to be treated are introduced into a housing containing a catalytic material. Air is introduced into the lower portion of the housing to fluidize the catalytic material and promote the reaction between the material and the exhaust gases to remove poisonous elements such as carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides from the gases.

摘要: A monolithic catalyst body of brittle material is supported in a housing by elastically yielding supporting means which in turn are held in position by holding means in such a manner that the elastically yielding supporting means, such as rings, layers, or packings, yieldingly restrain the catalyst body against movement in a radial direction as well as in an axial longitudinal direction whereby the brittle catalyst body is protected against shock loads.

摘要: Disclosed ia an air-fuel ratio control method and apparatus of an internal combustion engine. The control of the air-fuel ratio is accomplished by controlling the amount of fuel provided into the engine according to a plurality of separate electrical engine condition signals which indicate the operating condition of the engine, and according to an electrical air-fuel ratio correction signal which is determined in accordance with the air-fuel ratio of the engine. The value of at least one of the engine condition signals is corrected according to a signal which indicates a mean value of the air-fuel ratio correction signal. The correcting operation is executed so that the value of the mean value signal becomes nearly equal to a predetermined value which corresponds to the air-fuel ratio correction signal when a desired air-fuel ratio is obtained.

摘要: A ceramic honeycomb composite structure adapted to be used as a catalyst support comprises a ceramic honeycomb body and ceramic layers integrally provided thereon having surfaces including therein microscopic holes, a sum of volumes of the holes 5 microns or more being at least 0.1 cm.sup.3 /g to ensure a sufficient catalyst-supporting property and achieve a high mechanical strength of the structure. On the layers of the structure are provided active material layers onto which a catalytic component is applied to enable it to be used as a catalyst. A ceramic material is extruded through a die to form the ceramic honeycomb body to which is applied ceramic grains and then the body with the grains is dried and sintered to complete the composite structure.
