摘要: A process for lyophilizing a solution of an active agent in a delivery container is provided. Solution of active agent is deposited into a delivery container, the container is covered with a covering plate and placed inside a lyophilizing apparatus. Lyophilization is conducted to dryness by radiation, convection or both. Also provided is a device made by this process, an active agent-plastic administration device such as a syringe containing an active agent in the form of lyophilized cake, and an array of such administration devices.

摘要: The invention is directed to a polymer formulation in which a pharmaceutically acceptable, biocompatible, biodegradable and/or bioerodible, water-coagulable thermoplastic polymer or copolymer which is substantially insoluble in an aqueous medium is dissolved in .epsilon.-caprolactone, a pharmaceutically-acceptable, moderately water-soluble organic solvent. When brought in contact with an aqueous environment, such as body or tissue fluids, the .epsilon.-caprolactone slowly dissipates into the aqueous fluid. As the .epsilon.-caprolactone dissipates, the water-insoluble thermoplastic polymer coagulates to form a flexible matrix. Preferably, the thermoplastic polymer is a copolymer of caprolactone or methylene carbonate and lactide or glycolide monomers. More preferably, the thermoplastic polymer is poly(DL-lactide-co-caprolactone). The polymer formulation may also contain a biologically active agent and/or a rate modifying agents to control the rate of release of the biologically active agent. The invention is also directed to a method of making the pliable matrix and the pliable matrix itself.

摘要: A flowable composition containing a biocompatible, biodegradable, branched thermoplastic polymer is used to form solid matrices such as implants and controlled-release, drug-compositions in a body. The flowable composition with or without bioactive agent can be administered by syringe and needle to form in situ a solid matrix. Alternatively, the flowable composition can be used to form ex vivo solid biodegradable matrices such as articles, implants and devices. The articles implants and the like can then used as solid fasteners, prosthetic devices, and controlled drug compositions.
