    摘要: A composition for a bulk conducting glass comprising P.sub.2 O.sub.5, V.sub.2 O.sub.5, PbO, and FeO, the ratio of the molar percentage of P.sub.2 O.sub.5 to V.sub.2 O.sub.5 being in the range of about 1 to about 6, and the P.sub.2 O.sub.5 and V.sub.2 O.sub.5 being present in an aggregate amount of at least about 50 mole percent, the PbO being present in the glass in an amount in excess of 15 mole percent, and the FeO being present in amount of about 0 to about 30 mole percent. The composition may also include MnO or Sb.sub.2 O.sub.3 in an amount of up to about 2 mole percent. The composition may be formed into fibers for use in microchannel plates and other devices where bulk conductivity in glass is advantageous.

    摘要: A relay lens for an endoscope or optical instrument is shown. The relay lens includes a first rod-type lens element having a first end and a second end. The first end defines a substantially spherical surface and the second end defines a convex surface. An optical element is positioned in axial alignment with and adjacent the first rod-type lens element. The optical element has a concave surface and a convex surface. The concave surface of the optical element is bonded to the convex surface of the second end of the first rod-type lens element forming a single bonded gap between the concave and convex surfaces. A second rod-type lens element having a first end and a second end, wherein each of the first end and second end defines a substantially spherical surface, is positioned in an axially aligned relationship with the first rod-type lens element and spaced from at least one of the first end of the first rod-type element and the concave surface of the optical element. A method of manufacturing a relay lens is also shown.

    摘要: An endoscope with a working element and a sheath assembly. The sheath assembly has an outer sheath with an outer tube, and inner sheath with an inner tube and an insulating tip. An inflow channel is formed inside the inner tube. An outflow channel is formed between the inner and outer tubes. The insulating tip is connected to the front of the inner tube and has two holes; one for inflow and one for outflow. The top side of the inner tube has a flat shape to form an enlarged outflow channel area between the flat top side and the outer tube.

    摘要: An articulation mechanism for an endoscope wherein the endoscope has a generally elongated shaft and cables extending between a control head located at the proximal end thereof and an objective assembly located at the distal end thereof wherein the objective assembly is capable of being deflected over an arcuate co-planar path by the articulation mechanism is shown. The articulation mechanism comprises a proximal ring having a first outer edge and a second outer edge and the proximal ring is operative coupled to the distal end of the endoscope at one of the first outer ring and second outer ring and having a coupling member defined on the other of the first outer ring and second outer ring. A central ring having a first outer edge and a second outer edge, each of which defines an actuation member, is operatively connected by one of the actuation members to the coupling member. A distal ring having a first outer edge defining a coupling member a second outer edge wherein the second coupling member is operatively coupled to and which cooperates with the other of the actuation members. The central ring and the distal ring are operatively coupled to the cables and are responsive to the direction of movement of the cables to sweep the objective assembly over an arcuate co-planar path defined by a first predetermined angular path and a second predetermined angular path.

    摘要: An inspection instrument has an elongated flexible body which extends between a control assembly at a proximal end and an objective head at a distal end. Fiber optic bundles disposed within the instrument permit the illumination and the imaging of the interior regions of a structure being inspected. An articulating vertebrae assembly and a transitional coupler are disposed proximally of the objective head whereby the objective head is caused to move in an arc when tension is applied to interiorly disposed cables connecting the objective head to the control assembly. The vertebrae assembly is comprised of individual hollow vertebrae which are disposed along and axially aligned by a resilient stiffening member which is fixed at a distal end within the objective head and at a proximal end within the coupler. The member provides flexibility to the vertebrae assembly and, because it has a rectangular cross-sectional area, resists a torsion about its longitudinal axis, thus making the distal end of the instrument torque stable.

    摘要: A pivotable handle assembly for an endoscope such as an operative laparoscope having a proximal end is shown. The handle assembly includes a handle support operatively connected to the proximal end of a laparoscope. A handle including a mounting end is operatively connected by a member to the handle support. The mounting end is pivotally attached to the handle support enabling the handle to be pivoted relative to the operative laparoscope. In the preferred embodiment, the operating laparoscope is a video operating laparoscope and includes an image transferring member for producing an optical image at the proximal end of the laparoscope. A video camera is operatively connected to the proximal end to receive the optical image. A method for using the video operating laparoscope with a pivotable handle assembly in a surgical procedure is also shown.

    摘要: A grooved roller forming part of an electrode for use with a resectoscope is shown. The electrode includes an electrode lead member having an elongated conductor member. The elongated conductor member has a first end and a second end with an insulative cover extended therebetween. The first end has a protruding electrode adapted to be electrically connected to an electrosurgical generator and the second end terminates in an active member. An electrode support member is operatively connected to the active member. The electrode support member has an elongated semi-rigid bifurcated arm terminating in a conductive core spaced a predetermined distance from the active member. The bifurcated arm is covered with an insulative material except at the distal end where the grooved roller is located. The electrode support member has a grooved roller having a central opening extending therethrough for rotatably mounting the grooved roller on the conductive core of the support member. A method for treating and vaporizing tissue, such as prostate tissue, using the grooved roller electrode for a resectoscope is also shown.

The probe comprises a first electrode, a second electrode and a relatively rigid spacer means therebetween to maintain a relatively constant equidistant space between the first and second electrodes during the entire work life of the probe.
