摘要： An endometrial sampling device (10) for collecting body material for diagnostic testing includes a handle (12), a generally cylindrical sample collecting member (14, 14a) connected to the handle (12) and having a longitudinal chamber (22, 70), slot (24, 72), and a transverse slot (26) for scraping the walls of the uterus and moving sample material into chamber (22, 70). The handle (12) has a passage (24, 72) connected with the chamber (22, 70) to which a suction force may be applied. A stop member (16) has a slide (36) for gathering collected sample material. The collecting member (14, 14a) is made of a plastic material which can be severed from the handle (12) if desired to convey the sample therein. If desired, the stop member (16) and slide member (36) can be removed from the device (10) after it has gathered the sample.

摘要： Grooved tubing having a groove in the outer sidewall and a hole through the bottom of the groove is made by extruding a first plastic to produce a molten tubular extrudate, extruding a second plastic in the exterior of the sidewall of the tubular extrudate, subsequently removing the second plastic to provide a groove in the tubular extrudate and forming an opening through the bottom of the groove. This method can be used in making suction catheters wherein the groove walls prevent invagination of body tissue into the hole in the groove during suctioning.

摘要： A stopper for a blood collection tube adapted to receive whole blood for centrifugal separation into its relatively light and heavy phases. The stopper is provided with a coating which prevents red blood cells from adhering to it so as to avoid red cell contamination of the lighter phase after phase separation. The stopper is coated with a cationic binding agent, such as tridodecylmethylammonium chloride, and then with an anionic anticoagulant such as dextran sulfate. A lubricant, such as silicone oil, is applied to the coated stopper to facilitate insertion of the stopper into the tube.

摘要： A catheter introducer device using a silicone rubber catheter with a stylet therein permitting introduction by manual threading of catheters which would otherwise be too flexible for individual insertion. The stylet is held at its proximal end by a hub which, with a seating ferrule, abuts a proximal end of the catheter. The hub may be pushed to wedge the catheter in an introducer cannula and is then withdrawn carrying the stylet with it, leaving the catheter in place and ready for use.

摘要： An apparatus (10,50) is provided for physically retaining a reagent (17) in a blood collection tube (11) separate from a blood sample until the tube (11) is centrifuged. The apparatus includes a cup-shaped flexible barrier (10,50) placed over the reagent (17) disposed in the bottom of the tube (11). The barrier (10,50) seals with the inner wall of the tube (11) and prevents the reagent (17) from entering the tube's upper evacuated chamber (12,55) into which the blood sample is drawn. The seal maintains the barrier (10,50) in position until the tube (11) is centrifuged whereupon the barrier (10,50) moves to the bottom of the tube (11) causing the reagent (17) to flow past the barrier (10,50) to mix with the blood sample.

The liquid volume dispensed in a single plunger operation is adjusted by rotation of the plunger knob. Both a linear coarse scale and a circular fine adjustment scale are provided for accurately setting the volume to be dispensed. Positive detent stops are provided for accurate volume settings. Improved air purging and plunger locking mechanisms are also provided.

The system contains Coomassie Brilliant Blue G-250 dye, a monobasic strong acid having a pK.sub.a of less than 3 (e.g. HCl), a polybasic phosphonic acid (e.g. NTP), a water soluble, non-ionic surfactant characterized as being a block copolymer containing terminal polyethylene oxide segments separated by a polypropylene oxide segment. Preferably the system also contains a small amount of an alcohol such as methanol or ethanol.
