Abstract:
Disclosed are methods and devices for measuring a state of anesthesia in a noninvasive manner. Optical techniques may be used to measure changes in a functional near-infrared (fNIR) signal, where the fNIR signal is received in response to directing wavelengths of light in a near-infrared range on a patient. The optical density change may be used to obtain a change in deoxyhemoglobin (deoxy-Hb) concentration and/or a change in an oxyhemoglobin concentration (oxy-Hb). The changes in the deoxy-Hb and/or the oxy-Hb may then be compared to determine a state of anesthesia. The effect of artifacts (e.g., strong surgery room lighting, patient-table tilting, patient intubation/extubation) on the fNIR signal may be removed using a noise removal algorithm. In selecting the noise removal algorithm, a switching technique may be used to select the component analysis algorithm, such as a principal component analysis (PCA), an independent component analysis (ICA), or the like.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a method of calculating tear film lipid and aqueous layer thicknesses and/or corneal surface refractive index from interferometry data obtained from simultaneous measurements of the aqueous and lipid layers of the tear film along with a measurement of the corneal surface reflectance.
Abstract:
A maintenance method and system is provided. The method includes providing a device comprising a thru state switch and condition circuits. The device is permanently connected between a feed system and an antenna. The device receives a first control signal and disables a connection between the analyzer and the antenna. The device receives additional control signals and enables conditions. The device generates altered responses of the feed system. The altered responses are associated with the conditions. The altered responses are used to normalize an analyzer and the feed system or troubleshoot a communication system.
Abstract:
An in-home entertainment network conditioning device for use with a coaxial device in a CATV network includes an input node adapted to conduct CATV signals in a first and second frequency range, and in-home entertainment signals in a third frequency range that is different from the first frequency range and the second frequency range. The device includes a first signal path branched from the input node that includes a low-pass filter adapted to conduct the CATV signals and reject the in-home entertainment signals. A second signal path in parallel electrical communication with the first signal path includes a high-pass filter in series electrical connection with a signal conditioning circuit. The high-pass filter is adapted to conduct the in-home entertainment signals and reject the CATV signals. The signal conditioning circuit attenuates and equalizes the in-home entertainment signals when coupled to the coaxial device.
Abstract:
Embodiments of an apparatus for minimizing oscillation of an amplifier in an antenna system are provided. These embodiments can comprise passive circuitry in the form of a coupling simulator that includes passive elements selected and combined to generate an output with properties that can cancel or substantially reduce a coupled input as between two antennas in the antenna system. In one example, the coupling simulator may include a phase-shifting device and an attenuating device, each of which have properties with values selected based on parameters that result from the relationship between the antennas of the antenna system.
Abstract:
A surge protector comprises an internal circuitry configured to isolate a premise device from a surge input. In one embodiment, the internal circuitry can comprise a first signal path and a second signal path that is inductively coupled to the first signal path. Each of the first signal path and the second signal path can comprise windings, such as the windings that are found in an RF transformer. The internal circuitry can also comprise a blocking element, which is coupled to the second signal path so that the blocking element receives the surge input before the premise device.

Abstract:
The invention describes a temperature-stable protective coating over a metallic substrate surface (1), which coating includes at least one layer of material (4) consisting of MCrAlY, where M represents at least one of the elements selected from the group of materials consisting of Fe, Co and Ni. The invention also describes a production process for this coating. The invention is distinguished by the fact that a multiplicity of local elevations, known as rivets (3), are provided distributed directly over the area of the substrate surface (1) or distributed indirectly over the area of the substrate surface, separated from the substrate surface (1) by means of at least one interlayer (2), which rivets are fixedly joined to the substrate surface (1) or the interlayer (2), that at least one layer of material (4) consisting of MCrAlY is deposited on the substrate surface (1) or interlayer (2) in such a manner that the layer of material (4) consisting of MCrAlY completely surrounds the rivets (3), completely fills regions which lie between adjacent rivets (3) and projects above the rivets (3).
