The bandpass filter is applied to the photodetector signal to determine a tissue perfusion measurement from the filtered signal. A monitoring unit is enabled to receive the tissue perfusion measurement to detect a physiological condition of the patient in response to the tissue perfusion measurement.

A method and system acquiring, processing and displaying breast ultrasound images in a way that makes breast ultrasound screening more practical and thus more widely used, and reduces missing cancers in screening and diagnosis, using automated scanning of chestwardly compressed breasts with ultrasound. Enhanced, whole-breast navigator overview images are generated from scanning breasts with ultrasound that emphasize abnormalities in the breast while excluding obscuring influences of non-breast structures, particularly those external to the breast such as ribs and chest wall, and differentiating between likely malignant and likely benign abnormalities and otherwise enhancing the navigator overview image and other images, to thereby reduce the time to read, screen, or diagnose to practical time limits and also reduce screening or diagnostic errors.

An apparatus to facilitate image stabilization with user feedback is described. An embodiment of the apparatus includes an image sensor, a movement detector, and a digital processor. The image sensor acquires an image of a scene over an exposure period. The movement detector is coupled to the image sensor. The movement detector computes a movement measurement of the image sensor during the exposure period. The digital processor is coupled to the movement detector. The digital processor provides feedback to a user during the exposure period. The feedback is based on the movement measurement. Embodiments of the apparatus provide a simpler and less costly implementation for image stabilization.

An algorithm is quickly scans a digital image volume to detect density nodules. A first stage is based on a transform to quickly highlight regions requiring further processing. The first stage operates with somewhat lower sensitivity than is possible with more detailed analyses, but operates to highlight regions for further analysis and processing. The transform dynamically adapts to various nodule sizes through the use of radial zones. A second stage uses a detailed gradient distribution analysis that only operates on voxels that pass a threshold of the first stage.
