摘要: Devices communicate with one another over a wireless channel according to a signal strength of a signal transmitted over the wireless channel. Digital data captured at a source is transmitted over the wireless channel at a first quality if the signal strength or latency is above a threshold and at a second quality if the signal strength or latency is below the threshold. In addition, noise can be inserted into the transmitted digital data as a way to alert the recipient of the signal of signal strength degradation at a finer granularity.

摘要: An electronic device that provides a user interface that allows individuals to listen to an alarm is described. In particular, an environmental monitoring device may monitor an environmental condition in an external environment that includes the environmental monitoring device. This environmental monitoring device may provide to a computer a notification based on the environmental condition and an audio recording of sounds associated with the environmental condition. Then, using registered-device information specifying the electronic device of an individual, the computer may provide a message with the notification and the audio recording. In response, the electronic device provides the user interface that indicates the notification and/or a location of the environmental monitoring device. Moreover, the user interface may include one or more icons that allow the individual to selectively: listen to the audio recording, contact emergency services, and/or indicate that the environmental condition is a false positive.

摘要: A method disclosed for producing polymer-based cantilevers for use in atomic force microscopy in a batch process. The method includes forming a mold in a mold material, for example PDMS, using a master cantilever, removing the master cantilever from the mold material to reveal a mold cavity, filling the mold cavity with plastic, for example polystyrene, to form a plastic cantilever in the mold, and removing the plastic cantilever from the mold, for example using adhesive tape or flexing the mold. At least one surface of the plastic cantilever can be coated with a reflective metal, such as gold. The plastic cantilever can be functionalized for use in magnetic force microscopy by attaching a probe tip formed of magnetic metal, for example a 10 μm nickel sphere.

摘要: A robotic vehicle system is disclosed. The system can have a body and a track drive system configured to move the body. The track drive system can have a pulley and a track. The pulley can have an outer pulley surface. The track can have an inner track surface. The pulley can be configured to form at least one pocket between the inner track surface and the outer pulley surface when a foreign object is introduced between the pulley and the track. The foreign object can have a long axis (e. g. maximum width) greater than about 0.2 cm.

摘要: A wireless communication system comprises a first computing device and a second computing device, wherein the first computing device and the second computing device communicate over a wireless channel that is selected based in part on a geographic location of at least one of the first computing device and the second computing device. The wireless channel that is selected provides long range communications, on the order of 60 miles and more. The computing devices may be a robot controller and a controlled robot, or they may be wireless router and a computing device configured with a wireless transceiver.
