Abstract:
The present invention is directed to compositions and methods related to delivering degradative enzymes to remove/remedy environmental pollutants. The inventive material comprises a series of amide-functionalized ordered mesoporous carbon (AFOMC), which utilizes chemical conjugation techniques for the tethering of enzymes to the surface of the synthesized AFOMC. The delivery mechanism may be utilized to express a wide variety of toxin-degrading enzymes for removal/remediation of organic pollutants.
Abstract:
2,5-di(p-methoxyanilino)terephthalic acid crystal types I and II are made by controlling the pH during the recovery of the oxidized product of the condensation of dimethylsuccinyl succinate with p-methoxyaniline. The resulting 2,5-di(p-methoxyanilino)-terephthalic acid can be converted into 2,9-dimethoxyquinacridone or a solid solution thereof having controlled characteristics.
Abstract:
In certain embodiments, a system and method for insurance premium payment is provided that automatically charges recurring insurance premiums to a credit or debit card chosen by the consumer. The system may apply a reward component and a special interest rate component to the charged premium so that card holders and their insurance companies share in the financial benefits of card usage.
Abstract:
Crude indanthrone is milled, with or without other additives, to reduce and normalize particle size and distribution to a sub-pigmentary, near amorphous, state. The resulting highly aggregated crude powder is then treated with a heterogeneous solvent system of water and an alkyl ester of an aromatic carboxylic acid, such as methyl benzoate, to de-aggregate and grow the particles back to a pigmentary size. The conditions of the solvent treatment can be controlled with respect to temperature, time, and solvent ratio such that the desired properties of strength, shade, and dispersability are optimized.
Abstract:
A single ducted valve assembly provides an integrated cryopump valve having a purge valve port connecting the assembly to a cryopump with a coaxial connection having an inner duct and an outer duct. A pressurized gas interface connects a pressurized gas source to the cryopump through the inner duct. A rough valve port can connect the outer duct of the assembly to a rough vacuum pump; and a relief valve port can connect the outer duct of the assembly to an exhaust stack.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a cushioning apparatus for a pneumatic device. The cushioning apparatus generally comprises a body, wherein a piston and cylinder reside therein, wherein the piston is operable to translate along a first axis. A first port associated with a first end of the cylinder is in fluid communication with an interior portion of the cylinder through a first cushioning hole, and a second port associated with a second end of the cylinder is in fluid communication with the interior portion through a second cushioning hole. A first cushioning pin and a second cushioning pin are associated with the cylinder and the respective first cushioning hole and second cushioning hole, where the first cushioning pin is operable to enter the first cushioning hole and the second cushioning pin is operable to enter the second cushioning hole, wherein the entry of the first cushioning pin or second cushioning pin into the respective first cushioning hole or second cushioning hole generally limits a flow of gas between the interior portion of the cylinder and the respect first port or second port.
Abstract:
A trocar sleeve includes a trocar cannula and a trocar housing having a housing member base and a housing member cover. The trocar cannula and trocar housing are mechanically interfitted to form a trocar sleeve, wherein at least a portion of the trocar cannula sits within the housing member base with the housing member cover sitting over the trocar cannula for securing the at least a portion of the trocar cannula within the housing member base. The trocar sleeve also includes a stop-cock valve mechanically interfitted between the trocar cannula and the trocar housing.
Abstract:
A multi-service user interface that facilitates access to and exchange of information between two or more people when communicating remotely over a broadband network. The interface allows users to move data on a display using gesture motions. Each gesture motion corresponds to a predetermined function. In addition, the interface includes visible reactive zones where a user can move data to implement a specific activity such as, sending a message to another person over the network or removing certain data from the display.
