    摘要: The present invention relates to an optical transceiver unlatching device for disengaging the optical transceiver from a mounting cage found in a host computer device. The unlatching device converts rotational motion from a bail handle into reciprocating motion for a sliding latch member, which disengages spring fingers extending from the mounting cage from abutment surfaces formed in the sides of the optical transceiver. A return spring, extending between the sliding latch member and the optical transceiver housing, is provided to bias the unlatching device into the latched position.

    摘要: In a process for manufacturing a rigid magnetic recording disk, the disk's rigid substrate member is subjected to a force that produces plastic deformation in a manner so as not to remove material therefrom. In this way, the disk is provided with a surface topography that contains a controlled texture, for example in the area of the disk's start/stop track. In an embodiment of the invention, an ultrasonic probe and a disk shaped substrate member are placed in close proximity within a container that holds a fluid abrasive slurry, i.e. a suspension of hard particles in a liquid. Operation of the ultrasonic probe, as the substrate member rotates, causes the slurry to texture an adjacent portion of the substrate member by means of plastic deformation and in the absence of material removal from the substrate member. Operation of the probe thus provides texturing of the disk at an inner diameter track area thereof, for example in the disk's start/stop area. Since no material is removed from the substrate member, a step is not produced between the disk's start/stop area and the disk's outer data area. Alternate means for agitating the slurry, such as a hollow tip ultrasonic probe, a jet of slurry, and a jet of another fluid, such as an inert gas, are described.

    摘要: The present invention relates to an electronic module, such as an opto-electronic transceiver or a copper transceiver, for plugging into a host receptacle. In an effort to eliminate the use of costly and inefficient sheet metal spring fingers for reducing EMI emissions, the present invention proposes to use solid conductive projections extending outwardly from the sides and top of the module housing. However, in highly populated host receptacles, adjacent cages often share a common sheet metal wall, which will deform when a module with a solid projection extending therefrom is inserted, thereby making insertion of an adjacent module very difficult. The present invention eliminates this problem by vertically offsetting projections on the opposite sides of the housing so no two projections are in the same horizontal plane.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a cage for holding an optical transceiver module in electrical contact with a host circuit board. The cage includes front, middle and rear sections, and facilitates the insertion of the optical transceiver into the cage, as well as providing electromagnetic shielding and facilitating thermal dissipation. Typically, the cage is for use with an optical transceiver module including an integral heat sink cover or with an optical transceiver module including an external heat sink mounted over top of the cage. Various embodiments illustrate different schemes for maximizing heat dissipation by providing large openings in the middle section of the cage, as well as mounting surfaces on the front and rear sections for mounting external heat sinks. One or more crossbars are provided for guiding the transceiver module during insertion.

    摘要: A magnetic disk is rotated while a tape of initially abrasive free permeable cloth tape is fed around a roller in engagement with a radial region of the disk surface. A slurry with free abrasive particles is applied to the tape prior to engagement of the tape with the disk. The roller is radially oscillated and the oscillation frequency is related to the disk rotation speed to abrade grooves in the disk surface in a pattern in which grooves vary from the circumferential direction by no more than a maximum angle of 5 to 45, preferably 8, degrees. The slurry application is halted and a rinse liquid is applied to the disk surface while the feeding of clean tape continues. Thin film layers including a magnetic medium are deposited on the abraded disk surface. The groove pattern may be abraded on the entire magnetizable area of the disk surface or may be restricted to the head landing area.

The delatching mechanism enables a conventional small form factor (SFP) sized module to be unlatched while a cable remains engaged therein. A manually engageable lever, such as a bail handle, is rotatably connected on one end of a pivoting latch, and includes a projection for abutting against the module housing for distributing the force applied to the bail to one end of the pivoting latch, whereby the other end of the pivoting latch rotates away from engagement with the host cage.

    摘要: A magnetic bistable latch mechanism for latching the actuator of a disk drive in a parked position is described. The latch comprises a magnetically detented latch lever which engages and latches a latch arm in a parked position. The latch arm is part of actuator motor structure and accordingly latches the actuator motor. The latch lever is held in either the latched or unlatched position by magnetic attraction and resists shocks and impacts that otherwise would move the actuator. The latch lever is shifted from one position t the other by the actuator motor eliminating the need for additional circuitry or mechanisms to control the latch. Additionally, the latch does not consume any electrical power in either the latched or unlatched condition.
