摘要:
The present invention relates to a method for reducing the postprandial glycemic excursion to carbohydrates by feeding supplemental fructose prior to the carbohydrate challenge. The unit does of fructose required to blunt the postprandial glycemic excursion is from about 2 grams to about 30 grams fructose. The fructose source is consumed from about 10 to about 90 minutes before a meal.

Disclosed are methods of producing a blunted postprandial glycemic response in an individual, and/or reducing postprandial insulin secretion, said methods comprising administering to the individual a nutritional or other product comprising gamma-cyclodextrin. Also disclosed are similar other methods directed toward the use of such products to provide weight and appetite control, to normalize blood glucose levels in individuals with impaired glucose tolerance, to minimize nighttime hypoglycemia in diabetic and non-diabetic patients, to prevent reactive hypoglycemia in susceptible non-diabetics, to normalize blood glucose levels in individuals with gestational diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance during gestation, and/or to provide a prolonged glycemic response during exercise. The methods are based upon the discovery that gamma-cyclodextrins are rapidly metabolized and absorbed in the small intestine, but subsequently result in a surprisingly blunted postprandial glycemic response and reduced insulin secretion.

The present invention is directed to the use of pullulan as a slowly digested carbohydrate and to its incorporation into food products, especially beverages and meal replacement products.

The present invention relates generally to a method of blunting the postprandial glycemic response to a meal by feeding an acid controlled induced viscosity fiber system. The first component of the induced viscosity fiber system is anionic soluble fiber. The second component of the induced viscosity fiber system is water-insoluble, acid-soluble multivalent cations. The fiber system will typically be incorporated into a meal replacement nutritional. The present invention also refers to a method of delivering soluble fiber to diabetics and to persons needing to lose weight. Additionally, the invention refers to a method of promoting the feeling of fullness and satiety by feeding a nutritional product containing the induced viscosity fiber system.

The present invention relates generally to a method of blunting the postprandial glycemic response to a meal by feeding a dual induced viscosity fiber system. The first component of the induced viscosity fiber system is soluble fiber. The second component of the induced viscosity fiber system is water-insoluble, acid-soluble multivalent cations. The third component of the induced viscosity fiber system in lightly hydrolyzed starch.

The present invention relates generally to a method of blunting the postprandial glycemic response in a human by feeding an induced viscosity fiber system. The invention also relates to an induced viscosity fiber system and the liquid products that incorporate the induced viscosity fiber system. Further, the invention relates to a method of incorporating soluble fiber into a liquid product without the typical negative organoleptic or physical stability issues. The invention also relates to a method of inducing the feeling of fullness and satiety by feeding the induced viscosity fiber system.

The present invention is directed to solid matrix nutritionals designed for the person with diabetes. The carbohydrate system of this invention utilizes a source of fructose in combination with at least one nonabsorbent carbohydrate to achieve the same effect of prior art complex multi-component carbohydrate systems. This carbohydrate system has the added benefits of tasting good and can be incorporated into solid matrix nutritionals. The solid matrix nutritionals may also include a source of dietary fiber and a source of indigestible oligosaccharides. The solid matrix nutritionals may be administered to a diabetic in the form of cereal, bread, cookies, muffins, bagels, biscuits, crackers and bars. Particularly, the present invention is directed to a nutritional bar designed for the person with diabetes which incorporates the carbohydrate system. The present invention is also directed to a method of delivering nutrients to a person with diabetes by feeding the solid matrix nutritionals which incorporates the carbohydrate system.
