A method is provided for balancing a disc brake rotor having a first annular friction plate, a second annular friction plate, and a core gap. The first annular friction plate includes a first circumferential surface. The second annular friction plate includes a second circumferential surface. Respective regions are determined for removing material within the first circumferential surface and the second circumferential surface for balancing the disc brake rotor if the disc brake rotor is out of balance. A rotary straddle cutting tool is aligned with respective regions of the first circumferential surface and the second circumferential surface. Material is cut from the respective regions of the first circumferential surface and the second circumferential surface with the rotary straddle cutting tool. Cutting material from the respective regions includes removing material within the width of the first circumferential surface and the second circumferential surface.
Abstract:
A security seal for a latch and hasp closure or a similar closure including a flexible, elongated strap seal having an elongated opening therein for receiving a hasp. The seal further includes a locking post and a corresponding socket provided with one or more locking means for engaging the locking post so that the locking post cannot be removed without damaging the seal. The seal is also provided with an identification flag that is in a fixed positioned relative to the opening of the strap so that information displayed on the flag can be easily read or scanned without having to manipulate the seal.

Modified oligonucleotides having a GGG motif sequence and a sufficient number of flanking nucleotides to modulate the telomere length of a chromosome are provided. Methods of modulating telomere length of a mammalian chromosome in vitro and in vivo are also provided, as are methods for inhibiting the division of a malignant mammalian cell and for modulating the effects of cellular aging.
Abstract:
Antisense compounds, compositions and methods are provided for modulating the expression of CD40. The compositions comprise antisense compounds, particularly antisense oligonucleotides, targeted to nucleic acids encoding CD40. Methods of using these compounds for modulation of CD40 expression and for treatment of diseases associated with CD40 are provided.
Abstract:
Methods for slowing disease progression in an individual suffering from familial ALS are provided. Also provided are methods of increasing the survival time of an individual suffering from familial ALS. These methods employ antisense oligonucleotides targeted to SOD1, for use in inhibiting the expression of SOD1 in the central nervous system of an individual suffering from familial ALS.

A vehicular powertrain has output torque established in accordance with various torque contributions in including throttle and brake torques. Throttle torque contribution is reduced proportionally to the amount of brake torque requested. Furthermore, such torque reductions are less aggressively applied with increasing throttle torques requested.

Modified oligonucleotides having a conserved G4 sequence and a sufficient number of flanking nucleotides to significantly inhibit the activity of a virus or phospholipase A2 or to modulate the telomere length of a chromosome are provided. G4 quartet oligonucleotide structures are also provided. Methods of prophylaxis, diagnostics and therapeutics for viral-associated diseases and diseases associated with elevated levels of phospholipase A2 are also provided. Methods of modulating telomere length of a chromosome are also provided; modulation of telomere length is believed to play a role in the aging process of a cell and in control of malignant cell growth.

Abstract:
This novel silent operating mode for a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) reduces noise and emissions compared to traditional HEV operating modes. It is a complementary series of software control functions that allows the vehicle to operate with reduced noise and emissions where specifically needed, while phasing-in engine power where allowed. The method utilizes an energy storage system budget associated with a modal quantity of energy allocated for the mode, and is adapted to automatically adjust the operation of the vehicle to accommodate deviations from the budgeted energy amount. The mode also adjusts the vehicle operation in conjunction with changes in the parametric conditions of the ESS.
