    摘要: An interface device and method for interfacing instruments to a medical procedure simulation system serve to interface peripherals in the form of mock medical instruments to the medical procedure simulation system computer to enable simulation of medical procedures. The interface device includes a housing having a mock bodily region of interest to facilitate insertion of a mock instrument, such as an endoscope tube, into the interface device. The mock bodily region of interest may be pivotable to simulate various patient orientations. The instrument is engaged by a capture mechanism in order to measure rotational and translational motion of the instrument. An actuator is disposed within the interface device to provide force feedback to the instrument. The measured motion is provided to the computer system to reflect instrument motion on the display during the simulation. Alternatively, the interface device may be configured to accommodate instrument assemblies having a plurality of nested instruments (e.g., sheath, catheter and wire), whereby the interface device individually grasps, measures manipulation of and provides force feedback to the nested instruments. In addition, the interface device may be configured to simultaneously accommodate a plurality of independently inserted instruments.

    摘要: A peelable sheath includes a sheath formed of a flexible tube having a pair of separation lines arranged longitudinally on radially opposite sides of the tube to form a pair of peelable sheath portions, and a hub connector bonded to the proximal end of the sheath. A pair of wings are bonded to the proximal end of the sheath to faciliate separation. The hub connector and sheath are bonded by a web extending axially from a shoulder of the hub connector and including a pair of web tabs arranged on radially opposite sides of the hub connector. The web tabs are bonded to the sheath across respective separation lines, thereby preventing premature separation of the peelable sheath portions. The web also includes a pair of web support struts, arranged on radially opposite sides of the hub and rotated about 90.degree. relative to the web tabs, that are bonded to the respective wings to prevent premature separation of the hub connector from the sheath.

    摘要: A system is provided for joining two tubular structures by a surgical stapling procedure. The system includes a series of sizers, a specifically designed graft, a loading unit, a wand, a tourniquet, and a stapling instrument. The sizers are for determining the diameter of a target aorta and the availability of a sufficient transected aortic length to perform a stapling procedure. The loading unit holds the graft in position in the body and deploys a circumferential line of staples through the graft and an overlapping end of the aorta. The graft includes a side port by which the loading unit holds the graft during the stapling procedure, and which may be closed once the stapling procedure has been completed. The wand may be used to introduce the loading unit and graft into the body, to position them within the transected aorta, and to hold them in place during the application of the tourniquet. The tourniquet includes a band formed from a flexible material and having a width greater than its thickness so as to facilitate the formation of an annular loop. With the tourniquet holding the aorta and graft in relative overlapping positions, the wand may be removed from the loading unit and the stapling instrument includes a plurality of anvils, which may be closed to form a circle overlying the aorta, and a trigger mechanism for firing the staples. When fired, the staples are deployed radially outward through the graft and aorta, whereupon their free ends are bent inwardly by staple returns on the anvils. As a result, a plurality of staples may be simultaneously deployed quickly and accurately in a circumferential pattern so as to join together two tubular structures. The system may be used in either an open surgical procedure or laparascopically.

    摘要: Surgical apparatus is provided for placing lateral lines of surgical fasteners into body tissue. The apparatus includes an endoscopic body having an elongated proximal portion and an articulating distal portion which moves relative to the proximal portion. A cartridge assembly and an anvil member are detachably mounted adjacent the articulating distal portion which move relative to one another between an open position and a closed position. A camming mechanism is associated with the articulating portion of the apparatus for moving the anvil member relative to the cartridge assembly, and a linkage system is provided for effectuating the articulation of the distal portion of the endoscopic body to increase the range of operability of the apparatus. In addition, a driving mechanism is provided for ejecting the surgical fasteners from the cartridge assembly.
