摘要: An apparatus and method for reaching a 99% separation of bast and core fibers from herbaceous fiber producing plants using a series of pre-separation cleaning and conditioning steps which place the bast and core fibers in a better condition for separation before they are actually separated. The harvested fiber plants are cut at a specified length. These fibers are then introduced into a conditioning apparatus which breaks up and dries, but does not yet separate the bast and core fibers. The conditioned fibers are then introduced into an auger and feeder which distributes the dried fiber over up to four identical separation lines. Each line includes at least one core separator made up of a large rotating spiked cylinder partially surrounded by a spiked, grated housing, a smaller rotating spiked cylinder which produces an air flow, and an upwardly moving inclined conveyor having openings therein. The heavier woody core fiber is thrown, shaken or dropped through the grated housing and/or conveyor openings and removed to the core cleaner. The remaining bast fiber may then be introduced into a second identical core separator where this separation process is repeated, or it may be introduced into the multi-saw bast fiber opener with a non-positive feed control. The opener includes many rolls which further clean and separate the bast fiber from the core. The bast fiber is then blown upward into an air line separator from which the fiber exits into a bale press for compression into bales for shipment or storage.

摘要: An essentially planar electrowinning anode made of infiltrated sintered metal, e.g. lead infiltrated sintered titanium having longitudinally extending bars of lead metallurgically bonded to and shielded by the infiltrated metal. Advantageously the anode is made up of at least two strips of lead infiltrated, sintered titanium with a lead bar bridging the junction of the strips.

摘要: A process and catalyst for electroless plating of metal over a substrate. The process involves providing a catalyst that is the product of reaction of a noble metal with bromide ions where the ratio of bromide ions to noble metal ions is at least 100 to 1 and the noble metal is present in a concentration sufficient to catalyze an electroless plating reaction, contacting a substrate to be plated with the catalyst, and reducing the catalyst prior to or during plating of the substrate.

摘要: A consumable electroplating anode comprises a compacted mass of metal powder having an additive dispersed throughout the mass, having an electrically conductive path through the mass and the mass having a density in excess of about 70% of theoretical density. The metal can be nickel, cobalt, iron, copper, cadmium or any other metal available in powder form and usable as a consumable anode. The additive can be either a solid or a liquid and can be an anode activator and/or a bath component. A specific structure wherein the additive is held by the metal in a compressed state at abnormally high density is also disclosed.
