    摘要： A reflective display screen comprises a first component surface responsive to absorb low level ambient light from above the screen and a second surrounding component surface responsive to light of high intensity from an image source. The first component surface is graphically formed to represent a fixed permanent image within the screen viewable only in ambient overhead lighting and without incidence of the high intensity light from the image source. Other embodiments include a method of displaying a permanent, fixed image and a method of making a display screen.

The image adjustment element is to cause adjustment of the image-containing beam in response to a detection of relative movement of the apparatus with respect to a reference object. When substantial relative movement has been detected, the method further includes producing control inputs, and altering operation of one or more image adjustment elements and/or altering image data in response to the control inputs, in an embodiment.

    摘要： A docking station is provided for coupling one of a set of differently configured portable computers to stationary peripheral devices, and for charging a respective battery pack for the portable computer. A battery receptacle is provided so that, while the user docks and uses the computer, he/she can insert the battery into the battery receptacle and charge the battery. This conveniently allows the user to charge up an extra battery pack while using the docked computer, even while a battery pack inside the computer is charging from AC power provided through the docking station to the computer. In a preferred embodiment, the docking station includes a standard module having all standard peripheral interfaces, AC power couplings, etc., and also includes a set of computer-specific second modules which accommodates the physical size and electrical characteristics of the different portable computers used. Each second module also has a battery receptacle compatible with the particular type of battery used by the corresponding portable computer. Accordingly, only the elements of the docking station which must vary from one model of computer and battery to another are embodied in the second module. Thus, design and manufacturing costs and inventory and administrative burdens are advantageously low for the manufacturer, and the user can easily upgrade to a new computer by getting only a new second module.

    摘要： Remote installation of an update of software is forwarded by a management information system into a remote computer. When a primary communication path between the management information system and the remote computer is unavailable and an alternate communication path is available, a connection is established between the management information system and the remote computer using the alternate communication path. The management information system requests from the remote computer the current version information about the software within the remote computer. When the management information system determines the current version of the software within the remote computer needs to be updated, the management information system determines whether the alternate communication path is adequate for downloading the update of the software. When the management information system determines that the alternate communication path is adequate for downloading the update of the software, the update of the software is downloaded from the management information system to the remote computer.
