Abstract:
An optical disc reader is provided in which automatic focussing is achieved by movements of elements completely removed from the moving head which travels across the optical disc.
Abstract:
The trichromatic beamsplitter consists of composited dichroic beamsplitter plates that separate a projected image into its three color components with spatial as well as spectral precision. The three linear array photosensor comprises a monolithic sensor having three parallel photodiode arrays spaced precisely to accept the color component images of the trichromatic beamsplitter. The present invention also employs a spectral and spatial combiner that is capable of maintaining equal optical path lengths of each spectral beam so that a single combined beam can be produced and can be employed in a number of different applications such as a color camera device, a color recording device, a graphics presentation device, an electronic color filter device, a color projector device and a multi-channel optical communication device.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for exchanging the end effectors of apparatus for handling objects, such as robotic manipulators are disclosed. A compliant tool depository is used in conjunction with a tool holder to perform the end effector exchange. The present invention utilizes the motive force provided by the end effector actuation to execute the sequence required for end effector exchange. A bi-stable latch is provided which minimizes the force required to latch and unlatch the end effectors, thereby providing an end effector exchange mechanism useful in small laboratory robots possessing small operating forces. The tool depository design also adds to the positional forgiveness of the apparatus, allowing the robotic arm and the depository to be aligned with a lesser degree of precision than might otherwise be required.
Abstract:
A bath shaker (10) is provided for agitating liquid baths. The bath shaker (10) incorporates a "flexible parallelogram" mode of movement wherein a bath shelf (20) is attached to and supported by two, parallel opposing flexible arms (112). Present on each flexible arm (112) is a first attachment portion (124) sandwichedly held by an upright extension (120) and a first hold plate (110), the arrangement causing the first attachment portion (124) to serve as a flexible hinge. A drive mechanism (16) produces a reciprocating action of the bath shelf (20) through the use of an eccentric (80) and a pivoting lever (46) attached to both the eccentric (80) and the bath shelf (20). The flexible parallelogram arrangement defines the reciprocating motion to be substantially rectilinear and makes for an entirely noiseless mode of travel, while producing an extremely smooth transition between reciprocations. Two bath containers (24) are supported by the bath shelf (20) and are provided with a highly accurate temperature control system (26).
Abstract:
An optical scanning device for generating a data signal representative of an object which is scanned comprising a light source for illuminating the object; an imaging assembly for projecting imaging light from the object onto an image plane; a plurality of linear photosensor arrays positioned at the image plane for generating light sensing signals indicative of the intensity of light in different spectral regions impinged thereon; a transparent plate positioned in adjacent overlying relationship with the photosensor arrays; a plurality of filter coatings disposed on different regions of the transparent plate in alignment the plurality of photosensor arrays for filteringly transmitting imaging light in the predetermined different spectral regions to the different photosensor arrays.
Abstract:
A color input image apparatus characterized by a support assembly, a sensor assembly, a beam forming assembly located between the support assembly and the sensor assembly, and a projector assembly located between the beam forming assembly and the sensor assembly. Apertures of the beam forming assembly and the projection assembly subtend substantially the same beam angle to minimize the deleterious effects of stray light. The beam forming assembly produces red, green, and blue component beams by transmissive filtering of light emanating from a portion of the color image. The beam forming assembly is positioned in the more position-tolerant object space of the apparatus, and matched apertures are used throughout to minimize the effects of stray light. Embodiments of the assembly can input an image from either color transparencies or from opaque color originals.
Abstract:
A photometric skin condition analyzer is provided which exploits the light refraction and Rayleigh scattering from small particles, such as droplets of oil, deposited on optically smooth sampling surfaces of a sampling pellet. Light emitted from an optical source is passed through the sampling surface and focused onto an optical detector. The output signal of the detector is displayed to give an indication of the degree of oiliness of the skin.
