    摘要: A method for manufacturing powdered quantum dots comprising the steps of: a) reacting quantum dots comprising a core, a cap and a first ligand associated with the outer surfaces thereof with a second ligand, the second ligand displacing the first ligand and attaching to the outer surfaces of the quantum dots, b) isolating the quantum dots having the attached second ligand from the reaction mixture, c) reacting the isolated quantum dots having the attached second ligand with a small organic molecule whereby the small organic molecule attaches to the second ligand, d) reacting the quantum dots having the attached small organic molecule with a cross-linking agent to cross-link the small organic molecule attached to the second ligand with an adjacent second ligand attached to the surfaces of the quantum dots, e) isolating the quantum dots formed in step (d); and f) drying the isolated quantum dots to form powdered quantum dots. The invention includes the quantum dots.

    摘要: A metal casting control device is provided for use in conjunction with a semi-continuous metal casting system. The control device is an integral module containing a metal surface elevation sensing device, a valve actuator for positioning a metal distribution control valve, and electronic circuits associated with these mechanical components. The control device module is adapted to be connected to an overhead metal distribution launder by a single quick-coupling for convenient and simple removal and replacement. Calibration of the control device is performed after installation by mounting a calibration target on the metal casting system and vertically adjusting the metal surface elevation sensing device until an integral calibration indicator positioned on the control device indicates that the proper vertical position has been attained. The metal surface elevation sensing device is formed by a manually-adjustable sensor carriage and a sensor support which is mounted for automatic vertical movement relative to the sensor carriage. An inductive proximity sensor is supported over a metal casting station by the sensor support. The vertical position of the sensor support is controlled to maintain the sensor within a fixed vertical distance from the surface of molten metal within the metal casting station.

    摘要: A method of manufacturing a brake pad comprising casting a back plate in a mould. The plate is formed with at least one integral projection which overhangs an adjacent surface of the plate. The mould is formed from frangible material and has a recess in the shape of the projection. The mould is formed from particulate material compressed around a projection made of resilient material which deforms to the shape of the projection. The resilient material is withdrawn to form the recess. Metal is cast in the mould including the recess. After solidification of the metal, the mould is broken away from the projection. The method also comprises pressing a mixture containing friction material and curable material against the plate including pressing the mixture around the projection so that it extends beneath the overhang and curing the curable material to form a block of friction material adhered to the plate.
