A rinser has a partial-vacuum chamber that constantly communicates with a partial-vacuum line during the rinsing process. The partial-vacuum chamber is separated from the operating space by a diaphragm with an aperture. A spring forces the diaphragm into a position in which is closes off an air inlet into the operating space. Inside the operating space is a float with a shift rod that has a seal at the top that closes off the aperture in the diaphragm as the float rises, interrupting the communication between the operating space and the partial-vacuum line. The breakdown of partial vacuum in the operating space produces a differential pressure on diaphragm, which lifts and releases the air inlet. The seal does not release from the diaphragm until it is forced against a thrust pin loaded by another diaphragm that communicates with the partial-vacuum chamber through one aperture and with the atmosphere through another aperture. The forces exerted on the first diaphragm allow large cross-sections to the atmosphere and to the partial-vacuum line opened and closed, even with a float that, because it carries out only a control function, can be very small.

A device for rinsing milk pails automatically allows the use of a known rinser that rinse is suctioned into subject to partial vacuum and leaves again subject to atmospheric pressure. Prior to cleaning, a check valve is mounted over the milk-inlet connection and a cap over the air-suction connection to the upside-down milk-pail lid and the milk pail positioned on it with an annular spacer in between. The milk-inlet connection and the air-suction connection are connected to the rinser with hoses. During the initial suctioning stage, rinse is suctioned out of a rinsing tub through the teat cups, which are also connected up, and the pail simultaneously evacuated. When air is allowed into the rinser, part of the rinse flows back into the rinsing tube through the teat cups and the rest is sprayed into the milk pail, which is subject to partial vacuum, through the milk-inlet connection, the check valve, and a spray nozzle. During the next suctioning stage the rinse in the pail is suctioned out again through two channels and the pail is again evacuated. This process is repeated constantly during rinsing.

A cleansing arrangement for a milking machine has a reservoir for cleansing fluid. A vacuum line for conveying the cleansing fluid through the milking machine has an inlet end at the bottom of the reservoir and an outlet end at the top of the reservoir. A metering device for measuring predetermined amounts of concentrated cleansing fluid is located inside the reservoir. A pipe connects the metering with the vacuum line. The pipe has a branch which leads to a supply of water to serve as a diluent for the concentrated cleansing fluid. The metering device is further connected with two sources of different concentrated cleansing fluids via two separate pipes. Each pipe has its own valve member which normally closes the respective pipe. A handle is provided for selectively opening the cleansing fluid supply pipes. In operation, the handle is moved to open one of the cleansing fluid supply pipes. A measured amount of cleansing fluid is drawn into the reservoir via the metering device by means of suction created by the vacuum line. Subsequently, water is admitted into the reservoir to dilute the cleansing fluid and additional water is admitted directly into the vacuum line. The diluted cleansing fluid from the reservoir is drawn into the vacuum line and, after mixing with the water admitted directly into the vacuum line, is conveyed through the milking machine to cleanse the same. The diluted cleansing fluid is then returned to the reservoir where it may be temporarily stored for further use.
