    摘要: Process of detecting the presence of certain gases, including certain pollutants, in small concentrations; or to cause partial polymerization of certain polyacetylene compositions for use in time/temperature history indicators or radiation dosage indicators. The process involves contacting a reactive gas, such as a nitrogen oxide, a halide or ozone, with a crystalline substituted acetylenic monomer containing at least two conjugated triple bonds and substituents having at least one atom of oxygen or nitrogen. In particular the acetylenic compound is 2,4-hexadiyne-1,6-bis(phenylurethane) crystallized from tetrahydrofuran or acetone.

    摘要: An etchable electrophotographic printing plate comprising a coating on a surface of an electroconductive support such as grained, anodized aluminum of effective amounts of photoconductive ZnO and of a sensitizing dye dispersed in an organic resin binder comprised of about 60-90 wt. % of C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkenyl C.sub.2 -C.sub.8 alkanoate, about 5-30 wt. % of di(C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl) C.sub.4 -C.sub.8 alkenedionate, about 2-8 wt. % of C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 alkenoic acid or C.sub.4 -C.sub.8 alkenedioic acid, and about 0.5-5.0 wt. % of a cross-linking agent. The preferred thermally cross-linkable organic resin binder is a random copolymer of 70 wt. % vinyl acetate, 24 wt. % dibutyl maleate; 5 wt. % acrylic acid and 1 wt. % glycidyl methacrylate. The etchable printing plate of the present invention is environmentally safe, has excellent shelf life and high sensitivity to actinic radiation. A process of image-wise exposure of the etchable electrophotographic printing plate to a low-power laser combined with an environmentally-safe aqueous etchant to prepare a printing plate that provided 100,000 good quality impressions is also disclosed.

    摘要: A photoactivated time-temperature indicator is based on diacetylenic salts. A thermally unreactive ("inactive") diacetylenic salt (or a mixture of such salts) is mixed, in a polymeric matrix, with a material that generates acid upon exposure to light. Photoexcitation, preferably by UV or near UV light, causes the formation of a thermal reactive ("active") free diacetylenic acid. Following this activation step, a progressive color development occurs at a rate that increases with temperature. The indicator is useful for monitoring the freshness of perishable products, particularly those that require refrigeration.

    摘要: An activatable time-temperature indicator consists of an oxygen-sensitive reaction product of a triarylmethane dye and a decolorant that is coated on a substrate and covered by an oxygen barrier. Optinally, an oxygen-permeable layer is between the coating and the oxygen barrier. The indicator is activated by removing the oxygen barrier. Following this activation step, a progressive color development occurs at a rate that increases with temperature. The indicator is useful for monitoring the freshness of perishable products, particularly those stored at sub-ambient temperature.
