摘要: A robotic apparatus for traversing a selected area autonomously that senses orientation relative to the Earth's magnetic field or other “environmental” signals. The robotic apparatus is provided in two models, a master that can record directive and compass or “environmental signal” readings to provide at least one command recorded on a machine-readable medium representing an instruction for traversing an area of interest, and a slave that lacks the recording capability. Both master and slave models can replay recorded commands, and compare the expected orientation from the command with an actual orientation sensed during autonomous operation. If an error exceeding a predetermined value is observed, a corrective action is taken. The robotic apparatus is able to utilize a tool to perform a task at one or more locations, such as cutting, shoveling and digging. In one embodiment, the robotic apparatus is a lawn mower.

摘要: A method and apparatus for the collection of parasitic arthropods. In one specific example, the parasitic arthropod is a tick, which prefers to cling to the tops of foliage, while waiting for a passing host. The apparatus collects the tick. In one example the apparatus uses a suction force to collect the tick. In other examples, cloth designed to have a tick attach itself thereto is passed over a surface where ticks are believed to be present. In some cases the apparatus further comprises an irradiation apparatus. The irradiation apparatus exposes the ticks to a UVC radiation source, designed to disrupt both the life-cycle of the parasites, as well as to eliminate potential blood-borne pathogens that the ticks may be carrying. In one example, the blood-borne illness is Lyme disease.

摘要: Method and system for processing fault log data from a machine comprising a plurality of respective pieces of equipment are provided. Operational parameter data indicative of operational and/or environmental conditions for the respective pieces of equipment is further processed. The method allows collecting fault log data comprising a plurality of faults from any malfunctioning piece of equipment. The method further allows collecting operational parameter data relatable to each respective time of occurrence of the plurality of faults from the malfunctioning equipment. Respective identifying actions allow identifying a plurality of distinct faults in the fault log data and a plurality of data buckets indicative of respective levels of quantization of each operational parameter. At least one distinct fault cluster is generated from the plurality of distinct faults. Each generated fault cluster is related a respective quantization level of at least one operational parameter to provide at least one fault cluster that may be configurable in at least one of the following cluster configurations: a stand-alone fault cluster configuration and a cluster configuration enhanced with quantized operational parameter data. A plurality of weighted repair and distinct fault cluster combinations enhanceable with quantized operational parameter data is generated. At least one repair for the at least one fault cluster enhanceable with quantized operational parameter data is generated using the plurality of weighted repair and distinct fault cluster combinations enhanceable with quantized operational parameter data.

摘要: A method and system for predicting failures in a power resistive grid in a vehicle, e.g., a locomotive, are provided. The method allows for monitoring one or more signals indicative of an estimated grid resistance value. The method farther allows for adjusting the value of the estimated grid resistance relative to a nominal grid resistance value. A comparing step allows for comparing the adjusted value of the grid resistance against the nominal grid resistance value to determine the performance of the respective resistive grid.

摘要: A method and apparatus for the collection of parasitic arthropods. In one specific example, the parasitic arthropod is a tick, which prefers to cling to the tops of foliage, while waiting for a passing host. The apparatus collects the tick. In one example the apparatus is a roller that includes a cylindrical carrier that is covered with a cloth-like material designed to have a tick attach itself thereto, so that when the roller is passed over a surface where ticks are believed to be present, the ticks attach to the roller. The cloth-like cover material is disposable, as is the cylindrical carrier. The disposable cover material may be conveniently disposed in a refuse container. An advantage of the invention is the mitigation of ticks and the diseases, such as Lyme disease, that the ticks may be carrying, without exposing a user to chemical insecticides.

摘要: A method and system for identifying or determining degradation in performance of an engine cooling subsystem having an electric motor for powering a fan in a locomotive is provided. The method allows for monitoring a signal indicative of an electrical imbalance in one or more phases in the fan motor of the cooling subsystem, and for adjusting the value of the monitored signal for deviations from an estimated nominal phase signal value due to predetermined external variables so as to generate an adjusted phase signal value. The method further allows for comparing the value of the adjusted phase signal value against the nominal phase signal value to determine the performance of the cooling subsystem.
