Abstract:
A process for the telomerization of butadiene comprises reacting 1,3-butadiene and an alkanol, in the presence of a catalyst promoter and an alkoxydimerization catalyst comprising a Group VIII transition metal and a triarylphosphine ligand, which includes one phenyl that is mono-ortho-alkoxy substituted and at least one other phenyl including at least one substituent that withdraws electrons from the phosphorus atom. The product includes an alkoxy-substituted octadiene, which may then be used to produce 1-octene. The catalyst shows improved stability, activity and selectivity toward the alkoxy-substituted octadiene.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to &agr;-olefin/vinyl aromatic monomer interpolymers with characteristic signals in their carbon 13 NMR spectra. In particular, ethylene/styrene copolymers of the present invention have peaks in the carbon 13 NMR spectra which appear in the chemical shift range 43.70-44.25 ppm, preferably from 43.75-44.25 ppm and 38.0-38.5 ppm, said peaks being at least three times the peak to peak noise. The interpolymers are prepared by polymerizing the appropriate mixture of monomers in the presence of a catalyst such as racemic-(dimethylsilanediyl(2-methyl-4-phenylindenyl)) zirconium dichloride. The polymers of the present invention posses increased modulus as determined from both tensile stress/strain and dynamic mechanical data at comparable vinyl aromatic monomer levels.
Abstract:
Group 4 metal constrained geometry complexes comprising a 3-aryl-substituted indenyl ligand, catalytic derivatives thereof and their use as olefin polymerization catalysts, especially for preparing interpolymers comprising ethylene and a monovinyl aromatic monomer are disclosed.
Abstract:
Ethylene is homopolymerized in the presence of a catalyst consisting essentially of a Group 3 metal complex, preferably a scandium complex, having a bridged ligand structure. Optionally polymer blends are prepared by combining the process with another polymerization process, either in series or in parallel.
Abstract:
In an improved process for telomerizing butadiene, contact butadiene and an organic hydroxy compound represented by formula ROH (I), wherein R is a substituted or unsubstituted C1-C20-hydrocarbyl and the organic hydroxy compound is not glycerol, in a reaction fluid in the presence of a palladium catalyst and a phosphine ligand represented by formula PAr3 (II), wherein each Ar is independently a substituted or unsubstituted aryl having a hydrogen atom on at least one ortho position, at least two Ar groups are ortho-hydrocarbyloxyl substituted aryls. The phosphine ligand has a total of two (2), three (3), four (4), five (5), or six (6) substituted or unsubstituted C1-C20-hydrocarbyloxyls, and optionally, any two adjacent substituents on an Ar group can be bonded to form a 5- to 7-membered ring.

Abstract:
This invention relates to heteroatom substituted cyclopentadienyl-containing ligands, metal complexes containing these ligands, catalyst systems prepared from catalyst components comprising these metal complexes. The metal complexes contain a “a” heteroatom-Cp bond or a ring heteroatom-Cp bond in the 3-position of the Cp. In preferred metal complexes the ligand is a 3-heteroatom substituted indenyl group. The catalyst systems for olefin polymerization may be used at high temperatures, are highly active and produce high molecular weight polymer.
