摘要: System to reduce the pressure drop in a Vienna-type differential mobility analyzer (DMA). It is built to favor the flow axilsymmetry, with no restrictions to avoid strong pressure drops and high pumping capacities. It comprises an electrical isolator, a metallic cone to stabilize the flow, all in one instrument covering a size range of 1 to 600 nm. The electrical isolator is capable of a potential difference of up to 14 kV. It can be used to measure ions and particles in the size range already mentioned with resolutions up to 12.

摘要: Provides methods and apparatus for offering tiered application services for access to network services on a pay-per-use basis in public access networks. Using personal devices, the user can access different tiers of application services on demand, without the need of any preexisting association, e.g., subscription, with the service provider of the wireless access system. Such on-demand access is obtained by providing a variety of personal identifiers, such as a credit card number or frequent flier identification. Moreover, the service offering allows a user through a personal device to modify, enhance or degrade the currently established tier of application services during the lifetime of the user's association with the access network. A network-level enforcement mechanism at access points within the access network ensures user access only to application services within the application service tier that they have paid for, and deny service accesses not within that tier.

摘要: A uniformly preset spring force pre-load among a number of identical solenoid actuated valve assemblies (28) by uniquely adjusting the spring pocket length (L) of each respective plunger (12) to accommodate a respective spring (20) which is uniquely mated thereto. This adjustment is accomplished using a two-component plunger (12) consisting of a plunger body (14) having a central bore (22) and a rod (18) slidably located within the central bore. The rod (18) is press-fit into the central bore (22), and the spring pocket includes a portion of the central bore unoccupied by the rod. By pressing the rod (18) a selected distance into the central bore (22), a precisely set spring pocket is obtained which is uniquely correct for a selected spring (20), in that the selected spring is compressed to a precisely preset spring force pre-load. The adjusted plunger (12) and spring (20) are uniquely assigned to each other to collectively form a customized plunger assembly (10) having a preset spring force pre-load, whereupon a valve assembly (28) is manufacturable therewith having the precisely preset spring force pre-load. In carrying-out the adjustment of the plunger (12) with respect to a specific spring (20), the rod is pressed into the bore by a controllable source of force, such as for example provided by a stepper motor (88), and the spring force pre-load is monitored by a load cell (78) to ascertain when the desired spring force pre-load is achieved. Monitoring and force control is preferably automatic via a micro-controller (98), but may be manual.

摘要: Apparatus and process for measuring the unroundness and diameter of railway wheels in which a rolling rail is provided on which rolls a railway wheel to be measured, and a guard-rail centers the wheel during the measurement process. Several light sources project light beams at the periphery of the wheel at different transverse locations, such that the light beams continuously intersect the flange and rolling band of the wheel. The images produced by the light beams pass through filters to video cameras which store the images, and sends them to a computer which can process the images and determine unroundness and wheel diameter. The measurement process is initiated by a trigger system which detects the presence of a wheel on the rail and activates the measuring equipment when the wheel is at the beginning of a measuring zone and deactivates the equipment when the wheel is at the end of the measuring zone. The invention is applicable to the repair and maintenance of railway wheels.

摘要: A method and apparatus for measuring parameters of the wheels on a moving railway car in which the wheels travel on a steel slab and when a wheel passes a position sensor and is in a suitable position for measurement, a signal is produced which is supplied to a laser generator. The laser generator produces a planar laser beam which is directed onto the wheel. An image generated by the planar beam of light is captured by a camera in synchronization with the signal produced by the position sensor. The image is supplied to high-resolution artificial-vision electronic equipment whose output is supplied to a central control computer which processes the output and produces the desired information and displays it on a monitor. Separate laser generators can be used to produce separate beams for measuring wheel diameter and wheel profile and the separate generators are connected to separate electronic equipment in turn connected to the central control computer.
