摘要:
A method for characterizing bone structure for a patient, method executed at least in part on a computer, acquires one or more 2D x-ray projection images of a volume, wherein image content is acquired at two or more spectral frequencies. The acquired x-ray image content is processed to calculate one or more metrics that characterize bone structure within the imaged volume. The one or more calculated metrics are displayed.

A method for determining a location of an object in a radiographic image by segmentation of a region in the image comprises the steps of: determining a first image intensity that is characteristic of high image intensities in the region; determining a second image intensity that is characteristic of low image intensities outside of the region; and determining if a pixel is added to or removed from the region based on the similarity of the pixel's intensity to the first and second intensity.

A method of generating a pulmonary nodule image from a chest radiograph. The method includes the steps of: producing a map of a clear lung field; removing low frequency variation from the clear lung field to generate a level image; and performing at least one grayscale morphological operation on the level image to generate a nodule-bone image. Pulmonary nodules can be detected using the nodule-bone image by the further steps of: pulmonary nodules from a chest radiograph. The method includes the steps of: identifying candidate nodule locations in the nodule-bone image; segmenting a region around each candidate nodule location in the nodule-bone image; and using the features of the segmented region to determine if a candidate is a nodule.

An optical article for the propagation of electromagnetic radiation is disclosed comprised of an electrically conductive support on which a poled polymeric film exhibiting a glass transition temperature of at least 80.degree. C. and a second order polarization susceptibility greater than 10.sup.-9 electrostatic units is formed. A layer for enhancing the transmission of electromagnetic radiation is interposed between the electrically conductive support and the poled polymeric film. The transmission enhancement layer is an amorphous layer of at least 0.5 .mu.m in thickness having a refractive index less than that of the polymeric film and a resistance less than 10 times that of the polymeric film. The transmission enhancement layer being comprised of a mixture of (a) at least one metal oxide or fluoride and (b) a low molecular weight aromatic compound.

A method for displaying a paranasal sinus region of a patient is executed at least in part on a computer, acquiring volume image data of the paranasal sinus region of the patient, identifying one or more airways within the paranasal sinus region from the volume image data, displaying the at least one or more airways, and highlighting one or more portions of the displayed airways that are constricted below a predetermined value.

A method for forming a three-dimensional reconstructed image acquires two dimensional measured radiographic projection images over a set of projection angles, wherein the measured projection image data is obtained from an energy resolving detector that distinguishes first and second energy bands. A volume reconstruction has image voxel values representative of the scanned object by back projection of the measured projection data. Volume reconstruction values are iteratively modified to generate an iterative reconstruction by repeating, for angles in the set of projection angles and for each of a plurality of pixels of the detector: generating a forward projection that includes calculating an x-ray spectral distribution at each volume voxel, calculating an error value by comparing the generated forward projection value with the corresponding measured projection image value, and adjusting one or more voxel values using the calculated error value and the x-ray spectral distribution. The generated iterative reconstruction displays.

A method for radiation therapy with target recognition has a first target identification system for obtaining first target characteristics within a patient's body. A second target identification system obtains second target characteristics within the body aided by the first target characteristics. A computation means for calculation of three-dimensional coordinates of the target region with respect to a three-dimensional radiotherapy system uses the second target characteristics. Irradiation means for radiotherapy mode adaptation is used in response to the second target characteristics and the calculation of three-dimensional coordinates of the target region.

A mulitchannel optical waveguide page scanner has a diode laser and a primary optical channel waveguide. Light is coupled from the diode into the primary channel waveguide. Multiple secondary side channels each have a thin-film electro-optic waveguide modulator. A series of T-branch connectors distribute light from the primary channel to the secondary side channels. Each of the electro-optic waveguide modulators is addressable individually.
